When the Dwarven Ninth Battalion received word that the Caldamin mine was suffering from an infestation, they readied a team of armored fighters to help secure the tunnels. When they realized that it was an infestation of rust monsters, they decided to send Balda instead. Specializing in non-metallic weaponry and armor, and wielding his namesake stone hammer, Balda seemed uniquely equipped to handle such a threat. Upon arrival, he found the local guard unable to assist him (due to the ongoing feud of the local beasts Auger and Shepherd), so he put out a call for eager adventurers.
 
Our party answered the call. Shortly after arriving in Caldamin and meeting Balda, he put their skills to the test, armed them with non-metallic weapons, and accompanied them on their journey deep into the mines.
 
After exterminating the rust monster infestation, Balda was separated from the party after a fight with a large Bulette caused a cave-in. When he re-united with the party a few days later, he was regaled with stories of underground rivers and a possible link to the Darklands hidden under the town. Duty-bound, Balda remains in Caldamin, ready to defend it from threats above or below.
