Personal history

Ashe Wolfe was born at the eastern edge of Cornwall, to a family of Cornish monster hunters. From his parents he learned quickly to kill monsters and other dangerous animals & beasts. By the time he was 7 years old, he had a grasp of a number of weapons, and a strange affinity for cats. Even well into his adulthood he always has some type of cat as a pet.
 
By the time he was 12, he had advanced enough to have seen combat against invading armies, with the Anglo-Saxons of Wessex being common opponents. Over the years they were also hired by the same Anglo-Saxons to fight as mercenaries, usually against the Mercians or Welsh, and the odd time against the Picts. Through these peoples he knew he could make a living by hiring himself out to fight on their behalf and if need be, clear out dangerous creatures in their lands. It came to the point that when he reached 20 years old, he was on constant call for either. At this time he realised he needed help and set up a mercenary band called the Ashe Trolls to help spread the jobs around.
 
Why they were called the Ashe Trolls is not primarily apparent, but members are quite happy to tell others why. Ashe Wolfe had been fighting as a mercenary against the Anglo-Saxons of Sussex & Essex who were trying to seize power in Wessex. Unbeknownst to him at the time, they had got three trolls as a gift from the Danish raiders of the North Sea. During the fighting he managed to kill two of the trolls using a combination of his battle axe to chop them up and use a wolf pelt dipped in oil to cover the remains & set on fire. When the battle was over he found out that the third had escaped during the fighting and had fled into foothills near the battle site. Tracking it down, he found it huddled near the remains of a small group of goats it had killed, he gave it a choice. Either it dies there & then, or it accompanies him. It chose the latter, and has been with him since. After this time many of the northern European powers are importing trolls from the Norse as shock troops, and he has made it a form of sport to go against these creatures to take out as many as possible.
 
During the time of setting up his mercenary group, he has teams of five aspirants take on a troll in the wild or an enemy's army. Any that helps or directly kills the troll is accepted in, as well as any that manages to secure a troll to add to their own ranks. The latter is notoriously rare and only 6 has been secured in the past 20 years. Those that manage to get trolls this way are generally marked as officers & leaders in the Ashe Trolls, but all are respected due to the dangerousness of the opponents they face.
 
Lately, he has been in Frankia where the stories are that an Orc warband has embedded itself in the north west coast with two trolls. He has set out with a large contingent of his allies to kill of these vermin. With the Saxon War in the east having trolls used as well, he has found a good steady income from this. His skills in hunting dangerous creatures coupled with the mercenaries has been fruitful recently, and he has started making contacts further afield.

Employment

Acts as a mercenary band and monster hunter. He has been employed recently by the Frankish government in this capacity.
