By the Age of 15 Vaerys could get a hand on anything your heart desires; the only question was how much time you had and how much you were willing to pay. On her 17th Birthday her and her Mom went on a “business trip” which ended two weeks later and a lot of Goldpieces richer than before. When she was around 20 years old she started doing her own thing, not depending on the family contacts anymore. Business has taken them all over Faerun, never staying anywhere too long - so that she wouldn’t get attached to a place, or worse: People. The only constants in her life were her Patron and her Familiar, Syi, a spirit taking the form of a small cat. Adorable to everybody else, a pain in the ass to Vaerys. But at least she never felt alone. A few years later, around her 27th Birthday she came back to her Hometown, it felt good being home but also kind of felt like being in a cage. Restricted by her Family's Contracts. So when a new acquaintance, a Tabaxi named Hush asked her to get them out of the City, she had an excuse to leave. Her price this time: being allowed to touch their fluffy ears.
