Session VIII: Out of the Dark Report
General Summary
Having faced down the excavation mole and the asshole tankadillo, the party regrouped and made for the glowworm caverns deeper within the maze of tunnels, relying on the map Ishbel had given Retired Captain Calico Jack. Once they found them, the party split, leaving Zenora and Wiinken to keep a watch while Calico Jack, Zaki, and Horxim ventured into the cavern to retrieve the silk. With dextrous and deft knifework, Zaki and Calico Jack harvested enough of the glowworm silk to fill the bags Devdan gave them and managed to catch on to the rotational harvesting pattern the people of Rambergam have seemingly been following since the city's inception. Having obtained the silk, they rejoined their companions keeping watch and began to make their way out of the caverns. Just as they were reaching the last stretch, a strange lethargy and apathy came over Retired Captain Calico Jack and Horxim, who were leading the party. Wondering what was happening to her best friend, Wiinken tried to snap Calico Jack out of his stupor, and, failing that, went to investigate what was going on. Little did the party know, but a strange creature had been stalking them from the glowworm caverns, and when Wiinken peered into the darkness and saw its carapaced form and giant mandibles, she screamed, "WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?!" at which point battle with the umber hulk commenced. Battling confusion, delerium, and apathy, the party eventually split, with Horxim becoming the umber hulk's isolated target. As the rest of the party wore the creature down, it attempted to make an escape with its meal, capturing Horxim within its massive mandibles and making a dash for the darkness of the tunnels. Thanks to Calico Jack's steady aim and sharp sword, the monstrosity was felled, Horxim rescued and healed, and the party managed to return to the Daylight Chambers without any further encounters. They returned the silk to Devdan who showed Calico Jack some fabric samples and the final sketches for his water/stain-resistant suit. Then, the party made their way to The Warhammer where they gave the excavator mole's blood to Gralgrani, who gave Horxim a set of studded leather armor that seems to have made him just a touch more dextrous. In turn, Calico Jack presented Gralgrani with a challenge: making him an umbrella sword that can still function as an umbrella. Embracing the challenge on the condition that he put in a good word for her with Wiinken and go out for drinks with her before the party leaves Rambergam, Gralgrani promised to work on the umbrella sword after finishing Ishbel's commissioned sword; it should be ready for pickup on Mondas, the 17th. Meanwhile, Zenora split off from the group and investigated Temyllbur's goat farm, discovering that the pen in which the goats are kept is in great disrepair and that the goats seem to stay there not because they have no other choice, but because they choose to. Having finished their work and feeling more than a little depleted, the party made their way back to Candlehearth Inn, where Serle and Tammy listened with rapt attention to their stories of battle and conquest beneath the Daylight Chambers, fed them, and sent them off to bed for a well-earned long night's rest. This session saw the sun set on Shuldas, 14th of First Seed, Year 10,645 AoE. We pick up on the morning of Mindas, 15th of First Seed, Year 10,645 AoE; the weather outside Rambergam is cloudy and cold, the moon is Waning Gibbous.
