Mini 22: The Grandfather Oak Tree of Erik Report

General Summary

21st of Keltier 1524

After a quick breakfast, the party heads to the temple of Haelyn to meet with the Champion for 9am. They arrive to see the Champion praying, flanked by a grown lioness and cub. Isabelle gives the cub pocket bacon while they wait. When done the party approaches, and the Champion wanted to hear about their journey. Balthazar tells him all she can.

The Champion is interested in their research and wants to help the party in turn. They tell her a half truth about researching Brienda's family lines. As they discuss the stone gods the champion reveals there were three. A summer, winter and seasons in-between. The summer one had already been fallen. The party had likely killed the seasons in-between. The Champion offers them boons to help them since she is not well enough to go with them.

One use per character - Oath of Protection (Minor Boon)

A character can call upon Haelyn’s justice to grant themselves resistance to all damage until the start of their next turn. The effect is accompanied by a faint golden glow and the sound of a battle horn. Once used, it is gone. It is a reaction

 

One use per party -Divine Intercession

Haelyn's champion blesses the party with one divine intervention: if a PC is dying or the party is about to fall in battle while defending innocents or upholding justice, a celestial knight or spiritual guardian intervenes, saving them from death once.

The party learns of a Dwarf that went to Knutesford that might be from the same clan as Allag. They will look into following this up. They also learn the Champion is from Diemed. After finishing the conversation the party heads back to the inn to get their horses and go. They leave town at 10am and head back to where they camped after getting the antidote.

At 1pm they get back to the rock and head East, hoping to run into whatever the rock is pointing two before they will need to head South to go to the Grandfather Oak. While heading East, they see an eagle hunting rabbits, but this is the only thing of not while they travel. By the time they approach the grove from the North it is 6pm and the sun has set.

Even from here Isabelle can see the damage that has been done as it's dying. They get Brienda to talk to the grove trees to learn it is not safe to try and fall through the trees. The party travels around the end to approach via the tree corridor to the South. Isabelle gets a bird to fly over the grove for them as she watches through their eyes using Beastsense. She gets a general idea of where the Goblins are and that the Druid Goblin is actively dissecting a druid on the alter in some horrible ritual.

The party is discussing their options to begin their assault the tree before heading up to attack the two Goblins in the corridor. They deal with them quickly, but not before the alert the came. The Goblins that patrolled the grounds are working their way to the corridor as the druid continues their ritual. The party makes short work the Goblins before ten Goblins start heading out of the tree towards the party.

When they have a small reprieve from the waves of Goblins, they're able to kill the druid Goblin from afar to stop the ritual. Though not before the Chief Goblin advances from the tree with the next wave of Goblins. Arrows, lightning and fireballs make short work of much of this wave. However, there seems to be no end in sight as more Goblins descend the tree to join the fire.
