Session 20: Return to Keralon Report
General Summary
“What do you think it is?”
“I don’t know. It looks like a dragon, but it doesn’t seem to be a living creature. Looks like metal of some kind. “
“You think it’s dangerous?”
“Probably. That’s what the sign up ahead says. The knights that knocked it out of the sky put it up, and they would know, wouldn’t they? It looks dead though. By the looks of those trees and the marks on the ground it crashed here. I don’t think it got back up.”
“Why would it be dangerous then? If it’s dead, then it’s dead. Those knights probably want to keep others from stealing their prize. I have heard that dragon scales are worth a lot. They use them to make armor and weapons. Magical armor and weapons.”
“Maybe. Still, that is not a real dragon. So, the scales wouldn’t be real either. Just looks like blackened steel to me. I say we just leave it be.”
“What? The find of the century and you just want to leave it be? I say, there is a fortune laying just there, all we have to do is find a way to move it.”
“Move it where?”
“To the city. I bet we could sell it piecemeal either in Newton or Dogville. We don’t even need to enter the walls.”
“I don’t know. Seems like a lot of effort for something that may be worthless, or worse, illegal. I don’t want to get into trouble with the Circles. Remember what happened when Vern found that magic sword and turned it into a plow to cut through those tough roots in his field. He is still paying off the moneylender that spotted him the gold for the fine. I can’t really afford to make stupid mistakes right now. Not with Sandra pregnant again.”
“That’s your excuse for everything these days. I can’t go hunting in the king’s forest anymore because Sandra is pregnant. I can’t help smuggling in the whiskey because Sandra is having another baby. What happened to you, man. You used to be fun.”
“Whatever. I am checking the rest of our traps and then I am going back home. You want that dragon; you figure out a way to move it yourself.”
“Wait, Carl, come on. Seriously. I ‘m sorry. Just think about it. The money we could get for that thing could buy a nice life for you, Sandra and the kids. How about this. We go back to your farm and get some axes, a crowbar or two and the big wagon. We come back and then simply pry off a few claws, teeth and some of those shield-like scales. Just so we have something to show the blacksmith at the village. If he says it’s worth something we can come back to hack up the rest to take to Keralon.”
“I guess. How about we check if it’s actually dead, first.”
“How?”
“What do you mean, how? The same way we have been doing since we were young. When you find something dead in the forest, you…”
“….poke it with a stick.”
“Yes, you poke it with a stick. So go on.”
“Me?”
“You are the one who is so hell-bent on cutting this thing up and selling it.”
“Alright. Just stay close, ok.”
“Sure, you big baby.
….
Well, you poked it, and it didn’t move. I guess it is dead. Right? Rolf? Right? It’s dead? Rolf? Is everything alright? What are you doing? Rolf? Stop that! What the…!”
