Session 16: Delving into Ruins Far Flung Report

General Summary

Focusing for the next week or so with efforts at home, the expedition would make great headways lead by Nymeria as several blocks of ruins were cleared and ready for construction. A smithy for the Dwarf forge master Durkor would be completed next. With things well underway in the last months of Autumn, Aria would invite Nythara to join the expedition out to an island ruin spotted during the founding of Hithfaer. Nythara was an archeologist and Blood Ritualist from the old ways of their people. Before departing Aria would hold an open court where the Lady Yvannae would plead her case to be allowed to invite potential immigrants from her homelands in Ioban. Aria was careful and requests a list that they may be vetted before invitations were sent. Now ready to depart, Nythara was quite pleased to be upon this journey and spent much of her time as they sailed socializing with the leaders of the expedition, clearly wishing to make a good impression on this venture for opportunities at more in the future. Her conversations with Isenara were very academic and Isenara attempted to garner more knowledge of the blood magic Nythara was capable of. Her conversations with Zaelith were of a more personal nature, taking an interest in his arcane abilities.

A short day and a half journey would lead them to a blasted chunk of earth, displaced terribly in the Sundering, and now a small island off the coast of Hrivenor. It would not take long to find the evidence of buildings and ruins, the expeditions initial searching would find this place was once subterranean and dated to the first age, or perhaps even older it was hard to say. Nythara would oversee the dwarven laborers as they dug into the ruin complex. On the second day they would find some strange glyphs, whose age and ware made it challenging to discern meaning and purpose. Talindra would eventually recognize one as a symbol of a tree, perhaps the world tree and Araneth father of creation. As they worked thru the full moon of Winters Finding, Zaelith would be taken with horribly nightmares. Destruction all around, the feeling of a wave rising up and over a city, only to come crashing down atop him, his screams would draw Malakar on watch to wake him. Zaelith would be in a cold sweat, unsure of his surroundings at first as Malakar inquired of his well being. "No...ugh just a bad dream im fine..." Zaelith would put him off as he went to meditate away from camp so others could sleep. The next day Zaelith would compare his charm found in the ruins of Hithfaer to those here, with little success. Nythara would offer they may be tied to the full moon, instead of perhaps these ruins.

With one nights rest interrupted the expedition hoped tonight would be better, for in the morning the workers expected to have the way below finally open. The night however would not offer rest as Isenaras alarms would be sounded in the dead of night. Daereth being on watch would draw his weapon and move to protect the magical cabin Aelorna had summoned and Aria was staying within. Strange grotesque spider like creatures and insects would pour out of the darkness shrieking at the camp. One of the 6 legged creatures would burst into a dwarven work tent, razor like spines for legs puncturing several dwarves. Nythara being one of the first from her tent, finding this surprise attack not to her liking she would rush across the camp to get behind Daereth and move for the cabin. Zaeltih and Malakar would emerge from their tents in the south of Camp and immediately be engaged with the highly venomous spiders and aggressive insect monsters. Isenara would take cover in her tent identifying the creatures as some sort of Aberrations as Talindra would emerge and begin to battle the creatures with her magics, a bolt of searing light impacting one. Aelorna would open the cabin door and frown at the display before her as strange bugs swarmed Talindra and started to push past Daereth. Aria would send a blast of ice out the door before Nythara ducked in and Aelorna shut it, "Nope...do not want," the bard would say shaking her head and making for a window. Daereth would cut down the one closest to the Cabin and start to press out. Bahzel would emerge and come to the aid of the embattled dwarves. Malakar and Zaelith clearing the south would soon join the others. Talindra having drawn too much attention would withdraw towards the cabin and shield herself in a sanctuary spell. With the party together the tides would turn quickly and soon the strange creatures were dispatched. Where had these abberations come from and what did they want?
