III. Through the Labyrinth

General Summary

Elmisday, 5803 Suncrest 33

Miles below ground and far from civilization, you find yourselves in the midst of an ancient and long-forgotten labyrinth. You've already discovered it holds deadly traps if you don't watch your footing, so you moved forward cautiously, following the long stretch of wall that you had been given.

Ignoring the first turn, you opted to continue down the long path, soon finding yourselves in a wider space. As you investigated the long hall, you discovered that the crystals embedded in the stone that gave off a white light reacted to your body heat. As you discussed what the crystals' purpose might be, and after some experimentation, determined they would be safe enough to pass.

Further down this long stretch of the maze, you found the first real change in the wall - opposing alcoves with a pair of gargoyles. Max, recognizing them as guardians of the labyrinth, prayed to Minos, as did Ash. However, as Boran crossed over the threshold they guarded, the gargoyles sprang to life. They attacked anyone who had not prayed for safe passage, though Max and Ash felt betrayed because they had asked for safe passage for their friends as well.

The fight was hard and most of you took quite the beating, so you opted to try to find a place to rest. Instead, you found yourselves facing another set of stone doors, these with a detailed inscription around the frame that gave the tale of an ancient king who had defeated a great demon-beast, but lost many men in the process. Pushing inside, you found a large room with an enormous gargoyle, the walls lined with statues of suites of armor.

Without much debate, you left the Chamber of Goyle altogether, not wanting to somehow wake or release whatever might be lurking under that stone, and retreated to the relative safety of the corridor just before the Hall of Light. There, you took a night's rest to lick your wounds and recouperate. Because Tort took the first watch of the night, he was the last to get up, though each of you took advantage of the time in your own way.

Your "morning" is met with the dim darkness of the maze; the crystals appearing to have snuffed themselves without warm bodies to power them. You know the paths behind you, and before you lies the unknown, where you can only hope treasure awaits you.
