Session 31: Escape from Eveningstar

General Summary

In the previous session; the party sat to catch their breath finally aboard the Harbinger of Hope, Solas and Shadow went below decks to begin meditations and prayers, alas, from below the ground rumbles as the Harbinger of Famine summons dog-like creatures from the ground, a chariot-esque sleigh followed.
In response, all hands hit the deck, yet Solas and Shadow had disappeared, and no time to find them, the engine was activated using the bag of Driftglobes gifted by Earl Bryton Taysith for the ship in lieu of a divine artifact to power the Hope.
The ship shot off to the North, towards the explosions noted at the Tavern below, Erdan revealed he noted those dressed as War Wizards fighting the aberrations in the streets below, hopeful with the Harbinger lifting off from the ground in his grotesque dog and sleigh, the ship was urged to greater and greater speeds. Famine would not stop - until the prey he was promised was delivered.
Somewhere below - eyes stared up to the ship above - visible through celestial heavens across worlds, desperate to help - and so the Watcher and the Warlock braved the maze inside Fury's mind.
Aboard the Hope, Erdan let loose volleys of Arrows at the leading dogs ducking behind cover, but despite almost killing one, Famine was able to use his regenerative powers to keep them alive. He approach inexorably through the air pulled by the Yeth Hound convoy.
Bob had an idea - he searched the ship - finding the old ship cannons below decks, and came up witha plan, successfully hoisting the cannons with wiry dwarven muscle, carried them to the rear of the ship and poked them out the windows. Scratching his head, he tried to figure out how cannons actually work. Ammo - he'd need something to fire - he knows he can trust to his luck after all - searching the ship for something to fire, he finally came across discarded metal shards and cutlery hidden under a pile of large useless metal balls (Conors low rolls are still the stuff of legend). Combined with a barrel of gunpowder, and shovelling the cannon chock full, he rammed in the shards. Gave one last sense check to "I see no problem with this situation", and lit the fuse.
Upstairs the Harbinger approached, nearly unable to keep up with the arrows peppering his hounds, the ship was rocked by a giant explosion, the rear of the ship in flames and vanished, Bobs body thrown against the window broken, before sliding down to the ground.
Below - the Watcher and the Warlock beseeched a friendly face for help - resorting to abuse to get the results they wanted - and tooth and claw rose to the skies.
Above - The Yeth Hounds unleashed their most potent weapon - their howls sent those on board insane, Lucky caught every note in his mind - screaming in fear, he launched off the side of the ship - he must get away from those howls.
Falling off the side, Lucky had one chance to avoid the fatal fall - calling upon every ounce of natural.. .and supernatural strength, he latched onto one of the Hopes windows, and crawled inside, seeing finally Bobs dying breathes taking hold.
The Warlock and the Watcher explored the market at the edge of the world, paid the prices demanded and an oath was uttered.
Erdan eyed up the chariot ropes as the Harbinger prepared to get within range to teleport, One Arrow - Snick barely caught the rope The second rang true - Snap the rein cut in half, the chariot plummeted, the Harbinger holding on to the other rein in fury. Erdan stopped. Erdan breathed. Erdan pulled one more arrow and the spirit of the Eladrin infused him - Chunk the final rope sliced by a perfect arrow and the Harbinger fell silently towards mountains below. The Yeth Hounds roared and began disappering into mist... and on board the Hope... the villagers screamed as their claws and teeth rent them from limb to limb, Orla bravely held off, teapot in one hand broom in the other, but once the second Hound approached, her throat was the price paid.
Watcher and Warlock stood as judge and jury, and made an oath.
Lucky held back and took down a hound, helping Bob to his feet finally, as the beat of wings sent dragonfear into Erdan - the Giant Wyvern of the Harbinger of Fury swooped in from below and approach, claws and fury at the ready - before slashing apart the Hounds. Helping finish the hellish chase.
The Watcher and Warlock entered a greenhouse at the top of a castle - and faced the leader of the Cult of Malyk - the Guardian's Tear being corrupted before their eyes.
A vicious battle ensued against Darkmantle and Mage.
Meanwhile the Guardians arrived at Collinwood, the domain of Earl Bryton Taysith, and demanded an audience past some particularly dopey guards. Earl Bryton regretted that he was under geas that he required the call to arms from the Crown of Cormyr themselves, and only then could he assist with his army. Lucky convinced him to fund the Guardians further, and was rewarded with a crystal maze 'catch the gold tickets' affair where he came out considerably richer.
In the greenhouse at the top of Castle Kilgrave, the pair were struck by vitriolic sphere of acid but that did not stop them toppling the Drow magician - and something worse rose. Aurelina - the former harbinger of destruction appeared to buy the Warlock and Watcher time to escape, and into the Celestial Staircase they ran (second door on the left!). The key to defeating Pestilence left behind in the ritual circle - the two of them couldn't face .. THAT...
The watcher and warlock returned. The choice was made. The birthright claimed.
Below decks, Solas and Shadow sat - fully rested - facing each other - nodded, and headed above decks.
