Session 3: The Alluring

General Summary

The party found themselves in the underwater chambers where Wartortle felt a mysterious hand brushing against his shell and cheek in the darkness. He successfully grappled the unseen figure and pulled her into the light, revealing a terrifying blue-skinned sea hag with greasy green hair, long claws, and wrinkled skin. The hag offered to take them to the high priest to pledge themselves to her master, but the party was suspicious of her intentions. Skon cleverly closed the door behind the hag to trap her and declared "I call breast meat" and launched into combat.

The battle with the sea hag proved challenging as she attempted to flee into the darkness. Riggor cast interdiction on the hag and struck her with his crossbow for significant damage, while Hex pursued her with his rapier and Wartortle attacked with his battle axe. The wounded hag's lung eventually burst as she screamed "Intruders!" creating bubbles in the water, and she clawed at Hex, ripping scales from his flesh. Despite being told to surrender and call off her allies, the hag broke free and fled down the hallway screaming warnings. Hex delivered the killing blow with a rapier thrust, and Riggor cleverly mimicked the hag's voice to deceive other enemies potentially.

After the battle, Skon used his blessing to sense two creatures with blood within 120 feet - one 75 feet to the north and another 70 feet northeast. The party explored a dormitory designed for serpentine creatures, with couches filled with moss and algae. When they encountered a locked door, Wartortle broke it down with his axe, revealing a four-armed umizu who questioned their motives before combat ensued. The party quickly defeated the umizu, with Skon dealing massive damage through sneak attacks and poison, while Hex delivered the final blow with a rapier thrust to the face.

The party thoroughly looted their defeated enemies and discovered valuable treasure. From a trapped wooden chest, they recovered crystal torches that functioned underwater, 100 silver pieces, and three whale teeth with intricate scrimshaw carvings. In the dormitory, they found a conch shell hidden under a bed and a silvered dagger. The sea hag's body yielded a potion of healing and gold pieces. They distributed the crystal torches among themselves to provide much-needed illumination in the dark underwater chambers.

The party then discovered a complex light puzzle chamber containing a large mirrored column that reflected light from the ceiling. Glass orbs were positioned around the chamber walls, and by manipulating the spinning column and various mirrors, they redirected light beams to solve the puzzle. Successfully hitting the orb above a door caused it to click open, revealing their next destination. Wartortle triggered several acid traps during their exploration, taking minor damage from the dungeon's defensive mechanisms.

The final chamber contained a massive marble platform with a lava pit, where they encountered Raxifax, a pony-sized wrymling green dragon. The arrogant dragon introduced himself as the favored son of Sorfendel, "the omnipotent one", "The One who slithered in the Gloom", who sought to replace the kraken. When the party insulted his size and refused to pay homage to his mother, Raxifax demanded they serve as replacements for previous failed servants. Wartortle attempted a surprise attack but missed, leading to an intense underwater combat.

The battle with Raxifax proved fierce, with the dragon breathing underwater poison that dealt significant damage to Wartortle despite his constitution save. Skon's attacks missed their mark, but Hex successfully flanked the dragon and dealt substantial damage with a rapier thrust. In a climactic moment, Wartortle entered a rage and delivered a critical hit with his battle axe, dealing 15 damage and completely beheading the young dragon. After Raxifax's death, mysterious green reptilian eyes appeared on the chamber wall - likely belonging to his mother Sorfendel - observing the party before closing. Hex boldly taunted the eyes, saying "sorry about your son, you're next," setting up future confrontations with the true power behind the underwater cult.
