Session 11: Local Custom Report
General Summary
The party, accompanied by their new companion Trevor, make their way out of Tol-dumz at the command of Ostrin , a guard captain of the city. The make arrangements with Dvalin 'Sixfinger' to speak with the right people about lifting their ban, and prepare to leave for Nasswood to find and collect Butcher Trees. A mule and cart are purchased, alongside some other necessary provisions, from Barrowboots, purchase passage along a ship called The Water Nymph, and embark. Their polar bear pet gathers the attention of the first mate, who presents the party to the ships captain, Stobrand of Greatbelly, a Dwarf of middle age and serious disposition. His captains quarters were cramped with books, maps, and treasures, and his person dipped both sweat and jewelry. The captain hardly noticed the party until they were all in the door, but the strangeness of a traveling band made up of two Humans, a Gnome, and a Bird-Folk distracted him from his studies sufficiently long enough to invite them in for a drink. Over this drink, which becomes a few more, Stobrand picks the parties brains, and inches enough information out of each of them to get a general grasp on all of their origins and goals here in Treland. In return for these secrets he reveals his own affinity with magic. He invites them to dinner to further their interesting discussion later on. The party takes a small sojourn in their rooms and meditates on the events of the past few days. In a very timely and punctual fashion the party returns to the quarters for dinner, and there is a small feast laid out for them. There is much casual and recreational conversation over many cups of Barrowboot mead, and some warnings imparted unto the party. Their destination, The Myrk, is a very dangerous place, and the dark rumors which emerge from that place are solidly founded. Recently, travel throughout it, even along the roads maintained by the Firewatch, has become at best perilous, many have been going missing. As the night turns on, the captain starts to become drunk. As the party bard preforms his newly completed composition Fuck The Mooring Isles, he slips into an intoxicated slumber. Everyone begins composing themselves to retire for the evening as their is a yell from the outside. Then a crash which shakes the boat, and more yelling, and the sound of the crew being tossed overboard. A great wave collides with the ship, depositing onboard like so many flopping fish: four large and tattooed humans wielding cruel black iron in their hands. Trevor is the first out the door, he whisks past the enemies up to the quarterdeck to gain both range and sight. His higher elevation reveals to him that forty feet away, stood atop a devious wave there is a fifth enemy, inky-black of skin with tentacles about his face. A fight ensues, Krookk takes to the air and both archers peppers the wave rider with arrows until he is slain. Two of the Berserkers confront Ronn and Sesos, dealing damage but taking more, and two more of them rush below-decks to cause chaos. After the wave rider was dead, Krookk followed downstairs and with the help of his Air Elemental, slew one and captured the other. Ronn interrogated but got no useful information from him before slaying him. As the party was licking their wounds and helping the overboard crew back on the ship, a whirlpool formed at the spot where the inky black caster had died. His body was thrown aboard the ship, where it raised into the air and spoke with the voice of an Edlritch horror, laying doom upon the crew. It then exploded into a thousands of baby Krakens. Ronn captured and experimented with one, but ultimately decided it better to slay the beast. The session ends as the boat arrived in Nasswood.
