Appearance
While you don't gain the abilities, traits, and/or feats of your mothers race, you do gain their appearance. Until early adulthood, an astari will be indistinguishable from their peers, at which point three abnormal changes take place.
- Their hair turns an unnatural color as though it were dyed and their eyes gain a faint glow to them.
- Their physical appearance becomes exaggerated and stylized, becoming more action-hero-like.
- They gain a deep seated thirst for adventure and to change the world.
Astari are born to the families of humanoids seemingly out of nowhere but in truth this only happens whenever the gods are trying to fix something but are constrained by their code of conduct, which is almost always. To achive their goals without breaking the rules they take a developing featus and give it a small boost, making a person with a natural predisposition for questing and adventure. Born to save the day and become heroes, without the tragedy usually needed to get mortals off their butt.
Dispite the frequency of their birth, Astari are relatively rare because questing is dangerous. However, in the rare chance they survive and settle down, their children are guaranteed to be another Astari with similar gifts.
A very important distinction is that Astari are not fated to be successfull in their quests, the gods intervention and aid ended before they were born. They don't make better clerics, paladins, monks, or heros than anyone else. They certainly aren't more likely to survive their quest, just to go on it. Not that any of them realize that.
