Temple of Umberlee

Temples and shrines dedicated to Umbrelee located in port cities of the Sea of Fallen Stars and in the Nelanther Isles.

Umberlee was an evil goddess of the sea, that reveled in greed and cruelty.

She rarely did favor anyone, as she did not tolerate any clergy becoming influential and famous, which would result in overshadowing the Goddess herself.

Whoever worshiped her, made sure to collect high tithes for any services that were to be performed in her name.

They remembered to always spread the fear of her rage in all port cities, so no sane sailors would ever try to leave by boat without paying a tribute to the Bitch Queen.

She commands the sea creatures and undead sailors.

Those who are not paying the tribute will be crushed by the krakens or enormous waves and join her ranks as undead.

There are sailors who believe that instead of paying the tithe in those inland temples, they should pay them by dumping gold over the underwater shrines.

Those, who do not fear any retribution or do not mind forfeiting their lives, are said to be pillaging the shrines to make a quick fortune themselves, but they are usually never seen again in any of the ports.

They are believed to be crewing the undead ships of Umberlee and attacking all those courageous or stupid enough to dismiss a possibility of a deity being so vengeful to go after them.

The moral of the story is if you value your life pay the tribute to Umberlee, but if you are smarter do not travel by ship.
