Lavagills

Those who dwell deep into the mountains might have heard the legends of a lavarock-eating fish-like species called Lavagill.

They still are just legends because there are no records of them existing, even the captured Drow did not confirm their existence and they have seen much more of the deep Underdark than we ever dared to think of. Whatever the case though, we have got some information, some clues or rumours, whatever strikes your fancy.

Just for an easier time, Lavagill resemble Kuo-toa, however they dwell deeper, are smaller, live in magma and eat molten and lava rocks.

As far as we know, they are protective of their encampments and do not usually interact with other races.

They thrive in the secluded and lava-filled environments.

There is one exception though, there have been reports confirm Lavagills living inside of Molten Dragon's mouth and while having an all-you-can-eat in lava-filled cavities also providing hygiene services to the hosts. Whenever a molten dragon feels discomfort, they fly-by many lava lakes deep in the Underdark, scoop up a lot of lava with some lavagills into their maws and return to their lairs.

Dragons make perfect environment for a Lavagill, they get protection and have an abundance of lava for their disposal.

Have you ever seen a Molten dragon spitting a fire-ball? There is a non-zero chance that it was a Lavagill that was spat out with incredible force. While their symbiosis is valuable, there is an opulence of lavagills in comparison to lava dragons, so the latter do not need to worry about throwing one or two of their turtle friends in the direction of their enemies. Adventurers do not want to encounter lava dragon with a maw full of lavagills.
