Dioteer

Overview

It is unclear where they come from or when and how did they appear on Zoranive, however the mark they left on it is already massive.
First encounters with the deerfolk wearing a glass globe around their heads and antlers resembling astronaut's helmet were definitely shocking.
During the first encounters Dioteer act skittish and observe from the safe distance to begin with.
Not only are they easily mistaken for a game, but they are also rather isolationist and keep it to themselves.
During the years they were on Zoranive, they no longer have a need for those protective globes and can let their majestic antlers free.

Physical Description

They stand between 190 to 230 cm tall, slim and lean, while extremely elegant and graceful in movement.

Antlers

Females are usually smaller with narrower antlers, while males present much wider and threatening "crowns".
The antlers apart from being really uncivilized weapons more often act as objects of sexual attraction.
There is also a terribly rare condition that makes antlers to not grow at all, while it can happen to both males and females, the records state that it was significantly more frequent for females.

Eyes

Primarily blue, green and purple, but the crownless Dioteer have yellow irises.

Society and Culture

Males engage in the ritualistic combats for the leadership and frequently suffer fractures, which are not supposed to be healed in any way as it is not impossible, but rather frowned upon.
It is easier for a male with a majestic crown to find mates, because it means he is strong and successful.
Females often serve the role of hunters and scout due to their innate ability to blend with the environment easier, while the main bulk of the defense consists of males.

Weapons

Scouts use mainly laser bows with scopes for the increased precision and silenced string for the stealth properties.
The defenders use saberlight double-edged and double-ended polearms stretched across their backs, while patrolling and magnificent bluish ribbon stretched between their antlers that can be transformed into portable force shields.

Adornments

The veterans can be easily distinguished by the number of those stain glass crystals embedded in their thighs.
Those not only show the fighting experience, but also command respect.
Whether in deep jungles or space, the Dioteer achieve their safety in numbers.
They organize themselves into clans with the distinct roles in the society.

Naming conventions

The customary names start with Lora' for females and Tole' for males.
The second part of a child's name is formed from at least 2 letters from each of the parent, conventionally starting with father's.
Typically male names also end with ian while females' names end with an i.
Example:
Father: Tole'horian
mother: Lora'brasi
son: Tole'hobrasian
daughter: Lora'hobrori.

I have loved the idea of an alien species we might recognize as being like deer. I think there is naturally something otherworldly about deer. Great descriptions and the naming conventions feel very linguistical genuine. Great work!   Hayley ^_^
