Icewind Dale Session 15 Recap

General Summary

Wort's Journal 11th of Frostfall, Midnight   Welp, Val is gone now. We encountered his deity, Levistus, and decided to help him stop being a deity. He’s grown tired of the “dance of the devils” and just wanted to piss off to an island or something like that. In return, he agreed to help us in our journey and gave us some very impressive items. I got some new shiny armor that fits over this big shell on my back, but Val really cracked it. After hearing that the deity he had served his entire life wanted to leave the hells and go party for eternity, he asked for the opportunity to take his place. But I don’t think he was expecting to get what he got. Even an Arch-devil doesn’t have the power to just snap their fingers and give a mortal power like that. You have to work your way up by collecting soul coins. So, in a way, I guess Val got what he asked for, but I don’t think he wanted to be turned into a big pile of flesh. Moral of the story, be careful what you ask for or you’ll turn into a pile of flesh.   So, in order to help Levistus, we have to trick Avarice into casting a spell that would basically turn Levistus into a gem dragon and free him of his responsibilities in hell. We have to help her find the Codicil of White (or as I like to call it, the COW), weaken Auril near the Mythallar, and get Avarice to cast the spell. But we can’t tell her the real nature of the spell she’s trying to cast.   After talking to Avarice, we learned where to find the COW. We need to get to Auril’s Island, but that’s not as easy as it sounds. First, we have to find an awakened whale named Angajuk at Angajuk’s Bell, convince it to take us to Auril’s Island where we will hopefully find Nass Lantemere. She has a professor orb that will help us get the COW.   After our conversation with Avarice, we convinced Hurarwar or whatever his name is to go back to his mom, Sobbing Susie, and we tried sneaking out of Caer-Dineval. We figured the cult members would be upset about their leader being turned into a lemure. Well, they caught us sneaking out and Avarice commanded her creatures to just fly off with the ones who caught us. Pretty much exactly what we didn’t want to happen but whatever.   On our way to Bryn Shander, where we would meet back up with Avarice and prepare for our arduous journey, we ran into Denae and Iriskee. We were pretty sure they were tasked with finding Baldric and “marking” him if possible. Not exactly sure what that means, but that is what Iriskee’s note said. Regardless, they attacked us. That didn’t go to well for them though. We made quick work of them and continued on our way to Bryn Shander.   When we got to Bryn Shander, we decided to stop at ______ to sell all our shit we’ve looted in our journey. We ended up just trading all our old shit for some new shit. After that, we met up with Avarice at the inn where we also ran into Copper. That rude little shit bought up all the nice ale. AND, as it turns out, He probably sent Denae and Iriskee to “mark” Baldric. He tried to play it off as him getting rid of some trash within the Xendrosi but I don’t believe him for a second. Someone who just buys up all the good ale at a bar and doesn’t share obviously shouldn’t be trusted. Anyways, we had our chat with Avarice where she told us in more detail about where we would need to start our journey to Auril’s island. Our first step would be to get to the sea of moving Ice where we would find Angajuk’s Bell.   After a full night’s rest, we set off for the sea of moving ice. On our way, we ran into an issue at an icy river. Akar thought he could just trot on over on top of the ice and almost fell through. Remembering our ordeal trying to get Zel dry after falling in, I casted control water and pretty much just moved the water out of the way, creating a trench through the ice and water. After that we made it to the sea of moving ice without any more incidents.   When we got to the sea, we ran into someone named Zalkin trying to convince Angujuk to take her to Auriel’s Island. We joined Zalkin in trying to convince Angujuk and in the process, found out he had taken Nass to the Island already. We tricked Angujuk into taking us by saying we were supposed to help Nass. Zalkin came with us.   On our long journey riding in the bubble on Agujuk’s back, we learned a lot about Zalkin and about all the sights Angujuk pointed out to us. After about 3 days, we finally made it to Auril’s Island. When we got there, we saw the Frost Maiden fly off on this massive bird. And then there was this awful screech that seemed to warn us about the dangers we were about to encounter at this place. Glad I have this new armor.
