Icewind Dale Session 13 Recap
General Summary
Frostfall 6th
From Wort's Journal
I have traveled many places in my lifetime. I’ve spent my life in service of others to please Moradin. Making armor, a simple healing spell every now and then. But I never really knew what my true purpose was. Growing up in a temple of Moradin, I had always been told he has a plan for all his followers, and it is up to us to interpret what he wants from us. But how do you interpret something you can’t hear or see? For anyone out there that hears this, asking this same question, listen to my story. I tell it not for my own glory, but to hopefully inspire someone else to do something great.
I have been traveling the Ten Towns with this ragged group of “interesting” mates (to say the least). We’ve been trying to figure out where everyone’s shardalin has been going. We had no clue what the hell this stuff was until recently. We found a creepy bogan named Durth who was stealing the Shardolin from Easthaven for the sunblights. Actually, in this case, it was a statue. Why someone would make a bloody statue out of this stuff is beyond me. But anyways, he had a map on him that he almost escaped with, but we killed him. And he burned the map. This led to the house catching fire and HSAK inc. had some splainin to do.
We went to town hall and ended up confirming some of our suspicions about the curious metal. It in fact, makes people go bonkers, but it is also a very useful source of power. Although, ill advised and very destructive, Shardolin can do wonderous things. After a long meeting with the speakers of the Ten Towns, we were charged with going to stop the sunblights from doing whatever it was they were doing with this Shardolin. We were just about to settle down for a rest before the big journey to the Sunblight Citadel when all of the sudden, some sort of attack had been made on an inn that housed 3 of the speakers of the Ten Towns. Skath, Nairth, and Boris, and loads of guards. We had no time to lose! We had to leave that night.
As we made our way up to this Citadel, I could smell a forge being pushed to its absolute limit. I could hear the familiar sounds of metal being beaten and molded into whatever monstrosity these sheer, towering walls were hiding. We made our way closer to the Citadel and the sound was intensifying. Hammers pinging faster and faster. Then without warning, silence. No clanging, no pinging, no forges hissing, just silence. And then, we heard it.
Hundreds of feet up the wall, the horror the Sunblight had been forging was finished and had been unleashed. A nightmarish screech pierced the dead silence as a Shardolin Dragon revealed itself and shot off towards Dougan’s Hole like a ballista. Once we figured out what the behemoth was up to, we warned Captain Emdra in Easthaven of the incoming attack. We argued about what our best option was to stop the dragon, but it was moving so fast. We had no time to lose. We booked it back to Easthaven but we were to late. The dragon had taken out Dougan’s Hole, Good Mead, and it had just finished tearing through Easthaven. In a desperate attempt to stop the madness, we engaged the monstrosity.
Everyone started to panic. You could tell we were all nervous about facing this evil entity. We were slinging everything we had at it without any regard for what the other person was doing, when I felt a calming presence surround me. It was almost as if time had slowed down for a few seconds. In those few seconds, it was as if Moradin was with me; guiding me; reminding me that no matter what challenge lies ahead, he is with me. I closed my eyes, and I started an ancient war chant from my people. “KA MATE! KA MATE!!” A tingle that started in my feet turned to a warm vitality that seemed to fill my body. I raised my shield. “KA ORA! KA ORA!” In that moment, I felt all the pain this dragon had caused, all the destruction. I was too late to save them, but I could save the rest. “KA MATE! KA MATE! KA ORA! KA ORA!” A red beam of light shot out from my shield as I channeled all my energy into my spell. The Dragon started to glow red. With everyone else slinging everything they had at the dragon, the thing grew tired of fighting us and darted to the next town. I continued my war chant and focused on obliterating this evil force from the Ten Towns, stopping this destructive power the Sunblights had unleashed. And just when we thought we had lost it, the titan fell from the sky.
I didn’t realize the magnitude of what I had just done in that moment, because I was heartbroken at the senseless ruination these people were causing. Why would you destroy life so indiscriminately? The Sunblights Had to be stopped!
We located the felled dragon, loaded up all the broken pieces into our trusty “Vault Sack,” and decided we needed to infiltrate the Sunblight Citadel, and cut out the heart. We needed to find Xarderok.
