Ether Rot
Ether Rot is a chronic & terminal illness that comes from the exposure to ether inside the body. This causes the elemental particles to fuse with the nearest tissue it settles on making crystalline growths inside their bodies. This disease was very constant in Zodia for a long time as many miners would catch it during their work although it has been cured through celestial ambrosia.
Causes
Ether Rot is caused by ether getting into the body either through injections and inhalation.
Symptoms
Symptoms of Ether Rot are difficulty breathing assuming it was gained through inhalation, and/or hindered motor functions in the affected area.
Treatment
Ether Rot as many few means of treatment assuming its respiratory ether rot painkillers are all that can be done. Assuming it's in another area of the body amputation was also an option. The use of ambrosia can also cure the ailment.
Prognosis
The elemental particles going through the bodies of the victims will continue to intermingle with their cells leading to organ failure, lethargy, difficulty breathing, and death in a matter of months.
Prevention
Ether Rot can be staved off through proper breathing equipment to keep out the ether particles.
History
This illness was secretly discovered during experimentation during the dark ages as experiments involving the use of ether injections to make people stronger through their elemental power. Results were less than favorable but experiments continued in secret. Ether Rot was discovered during the control of the sixth descendent of Nicholas Noblestell, Juace Noblestell who found the safety equipment of the miners too costly. The miners that work in ether mines came down with breathing problems and physical impairments from their work. Despite the best efforts of doctors no cure could be found for this ailment & as the human and other less hardy miner succumbed to it and perished in a matter of years Noblestell miners were exclusively dwarven as they died much later. This occurred for thousands of years until Olgrimion came along and took control of ether operations making the cases of ether rot drop tremendously. Those who were afflicted were cured through use of the ambrosia.
