The Scales

Each sec of the Scales is organized in the following way:

The Sovereign

The legal leader of each sect, but generally not involved in its everyday operation. If there is a problem, it is usually handled by the Head Sentinel, but may be escalated to The Sovereign themselves. In times of strife, or if battle magic is needed, The Sovereign dictates where and how it is deployed.    

Head Sentinel

The de-facto leader of The Scales. They are an elected position among the general populace and are chosen from the Sentinel council. They dictate generally what The Scales will do, and then hands down the decision to the council for them to decide how best to do it. The position is generally occupied by an individual who can, if need be, eliminate any rogue mages, referred to as blights.  

Sentinel Council

The Council is comprised of ten of the more capable, and wise Sentinels. The position is also elected, but they are not required to maintain combat readiness, and are more valued for their insights. They figure out how to best implement the plans of the Head Sentinel, in order to make sure it is best for the Sovereigns territory.    

Nexus Staff

The Nexus network throughout the world is maintained by a dedicated portion of the Scale’s staff. They are responsible for preventing Chaos storms in the more underpopulated areas of the world, and detecting unauthorized use of magic. Each Sovereign has the responsibility to supply and maintain those nexuses that fall within their territory.  

Head Archmagi

The head of each school of magic sit on a Privy Council, and report directly to the Sentinel Council. They generally just report on the growth of the Scales. They are also in charge of monitoring and quelling Chaos storms, and maintaining the balance of magical energy within the Territory. Each head has an apprentice, seldom more than one that they train to eventually replace them.    

Senior Sentinels

The brunt of the rest of the lesser administrative positions are held by Senior Sentinels that have proven capable, and have taken down at least one blight. They handle the minutia of course curriculums and which classes are taught by which Archmagi. They train apprentice Sentinels, and seek out new students.    

Sovereign Ambassadors

Adult Dragons from other neighboring territories that have expressed an interest in the arcane arts. They represent the interests of the other Sovereigns, to ensure that peace is maintained. They command, collectively, The Blades.  

The Blades

An independent force of the military that acts as a neutral party during all internal investigations. They are donated by neighboring territories as a sign of good faith. Their names vary by locale.(i.e Dawnblades, Silverswords, Bronzeblades,etc.) but all have the same purpose.

“Protecting the world with magic, authority, and strength” is featured in every main hall of every sect of The Scales. There are some variations, but the overall sentiment is she same: protect and control.    

Protect

The Scales utilize Sentinels as their main form of protection. They are individuals that can nullify the use or utilization of non-divine magic in others. The method by which they do this is a closely guarded secret. Not just anyone can become a Sentinel, and the vetting process is thorough. If a magic user turns their gift or knowledge on another outside of very specific circumstances, a Sentinel is deployed alongside local forces to apprehend the now criminal mage. Minor infractions are met with mild punishment, more severe ones are met with immediate death.    

Control

The entire intuition acts as the major form of control over magic. Individuals discovered to have the talent for magic are taken into the institution for education. Those that seek to learn how to use magic must apply to the institution for a license to learn, and are accepted after a thorough examination of their character. Anyone found practicing magic without explicit permission from the Scales are punished in accordance with the severity.
