The Black, Qazyldrath (KAZZ-ill-drath)
(a.k.a. the Sun Eater, the Silent Decay)
Qazyldrath is an ancient creature of nightmares, a manipulator of acid and shadows, a monster who has haunted mortal minds even myriads after their dragon’s wings first engulfed the light of the sun. This gloom dragon's venerable age is surpassed only by the fear they command.
Qazyldrath features heavily in the oral and written histories of the Dragonborn; they're said to be the progenitor of dragonfear, and the vicious drakes. Though they weren't seen for hundreds of myrs, their influence is ever present across the mortals of The Worldsphere. Even the elven dialects show signs of their presence, using a variation of the dragon's name for the word "eclipse".
During the Third Dragon war, The Sun Eater earned its moniker by defeating The Last Gold, Aureliustarax. They devoured every living soul in Necah, leaving it a desolate city of darkness and death. Even after the gloom dragon was banished to the Realm of Shadow by the Dawnbringers, the city remains empty, too terrifying are the shadows that linger there.
