Union of Mytogradian Traders Without Borders

The Union of Mytogradian Traders Without Borders (UMTWB), or as most people know it the UMT, short for Union of Mytogradian Traders, is a guild, or as they call it, union, which's goal is to represent the interest of Mytogradian (individuals from Mytograd) traders wherever they may be. Though they operate primarily in Mytograd, where they are one of the most powerful forces at hand, they can also be found elsewhere in Sundermark. They are influencial throughout Lake Rynkowski and the River Dawn, as well as in the cultural capital of the Rynkowskian people, Ziwskowa.

Regional Operations

The UMT is an organisation which works in many regions and settlements, below are details for their operations in specific regions/settlements.

Wysepka (County of Katrach)

In 1300 AR a man by the name of Malakesh, best known as the sorcerer locally, overthrew the ancestral lords of the County of Katrach, house Wierno. The house of Wierno had long opposed the UMT out of fear for Mytogradian influence in their land, fearing that this influence might disturbe the relative peace they had established in the area. However, with their fall things changed. In 1304, after a few years of increased oppenness to trade, and willingness to sell the iron which house Wierno had guarded carefully, the UMT decided to send an official delegation to establish official terms for trade between the Union and the County of Katrach. Though they were denied an audience with the Sorcerer, Malakesh, himself, they did meet with his second in command Thurh, as well as the mayor of Wysepka, Pavlina Strachow.
Much was discussed during the meeting, but in the end all parties came to an agreement. The UMT would keep a look out for talented magicians or magical individuals, they would also notify the Sorcerer of powerful artifacts or magical items. The reasoning for the first clause was that the Sorcerer needed to know about any dangers to his posistion, and the second clause was because of the Sorcerers interest in items of magical capability. In exchange the UMT would be allowed to trade directly with the Lordship, cutting out middlemen from their access to the coveted iron from the area. Though, they were not allowed to conduct trade with private merchants in the town, only being allowed to deal directly with the Mayor and Thurh.
In the aftermath, Thurh and some of his men... "aquired" a property by the docks for the UMT, which was to be used as both a temporary storehouse, as well as an office for their delegation. Seemingly all had gone smoothly for the UMT in these negotiations. However, they were not fully satisfied, they had hoped for better prices on the iron, and they had also not been aware of the Sorcerers acceptance of slavery, a fact they knew could hurt their Unions reputation were it to become common knowledge. Still, they knew the iron was worth far to much to not take advantage of. Thankfully though, the delegation was approached by the mayor Pavlina after the meeting, she had a proposistion for them.
Pavlina represented the house of Pazerski, and her family hoped to overthrow the Sorcerer, usurping the title Lordship of Katrach. They were willing to grant the UMT exclusive trade rights to the areas iron and better prices, as well as other perks they had hoped for. The oppertunity to fully integrate the County into the Unions sphere of merchentile influence made them accept Pavlinas proposal. They would sponser these rebells. With their shipments of standard goods like textiles and salts, which the Lordship would trade for iron, there would now also be weapons being brought every shipment.
The UMT also made it clear that there could be a possibility for them to aquire mercenaries for the house, though they were not ready to make the promise without further proof that the rebellion would fiddle and die before it could even get started. However, in order to be prepared, they have brought some of their C.A.S.H's into Skrzyzowanie, preparing a force to be sent into Katrach. For this purpose, some fifty mercenaries, well-trained and properly armed are at standby in the settlement. Along them, one wizard from The Arcane Guild of Mytograd.
The wizard is called Spetzek, and is a wizard specialised in the school of transmutation. He is fairly young, around mid 30s, and he is, truthfully, afraid of the work before him. He's never been much of a warrior. He only accepted the task because he was forced to. Spetzek has certain issues, primarily, he struggles with drink. He was a very promising wizard in his youth, but in his 20s he would aquire a taste for drink. A year or so ago, he, while drunk, accidentally transmuted a fellow colleagues's heart into stone, and they were unable to save the young womans life. Instead of casting him out, he has promised to turn sober, and do anything the guild asks of him. As such he is here.
The delegation to the County of Katrach is made up of four individuals. The leader is Sergiusz Hryc, a prominent member of the union best known for his negotiation skills. He is a M.O.B, and works directly beneath the CTR, taking orders personally. He's mother was another member who gave birth to him in Ziwskowa, he's grown up on the move, as his mother was the former CTR during much of his childhood.
With Sergiusz are Radek and Roman, two young halfling twins who act as his assistants. These two are neither M.O.B's or R.O.U's, but instead they are personal hires by Sergiusz, who brought them in as outsiders. Sergiusz treates his assistants well, and the two of them see him as almost a third elder brother.
The group also had a guard brought with them, Halina. Halina is mercenary born in the cursed land of Prekliaty Cesta, and she is also not a member of the U.M.T, instead she is on retainer by Sergiusz personally. Halina carries her mark above her right eye. The mark is usual, it looks a bad burn, but it forms the shape of an anima, Halina's shape is that of a blackbear. She is a talented warrior, but she has one weakness, drink.
Sergiusz deviates from the standard of most delegations, choosing to hire personally instead of using manpower assigned from the U.M.T's lists. He prefers to directly pick his own assistants, something unpopular among the elite of the U.M.T, whom see it as a deviation from order and structure.

Structure

Overview
The U.M.T as organisation is headed by a council, known as The Unions Council of Operations, or U.C.O. The U.C.O decides all the faction-wide policies and rules, they are also in charge of deciding tarrifs, and delegating all other tasks. They are the chief power in the U.M.T with no true competitor/rival to challange their sway in the group. Below the council things are divided into two hierarchies, those being the regional and the borderless hierarchies.
Borderless positions are meant to represent those in the organisation who are on the move, for example ship captains, diplomats, and traders. The regional on the other hand represent positions tied to a location, or region, for example artisans, labourers, and others employed by the guild to perform set tasks at set locations. Those part of the regional systems are under the charge of their representative on the U.C.O, whereas those in the borderless system work under the delegation of the whole of U.C.O.
  U.C.O
The Unions Council of Operations, or U.C.O was established in the year of 1271 AR, as the U.M.T was officially reorganised into the U.M.T.W.B, a decision that came from it's new-found interest in Sundermark beyond Mytograd. The U.C.O is made of representatives from each region that has been granted the "Union Integral Region", or U.I.R title. As of 1306 AR there are the following U.I.R Regions, and they are headed by the following Council Members: (the first name is the council member, the second is the C.R.M, third P.R.M)
    • Mytograd - Marianna Mankowski, Hania Dobosz
    • Lake Rynkowski - Eryk Piszczek, Igor Sielski
    • River Dawn - Konrad Zientek, Hildegard, vacant
    • River Szybka - Florentyna Sielski, Kamil Piszczek
    • Ziwskova - Dionizy Mankowski, vacant
Each of these regions are headed by a council member, and they all hold equal power, at least in theory. They vote, and propose, policies and large-scale decisions, and they are the one's who take it upon themselves to delegate these matters to appropriate M.O.B's. They are for all intensive purposes in charge of the U.M.T.
Members of the Union without Borders / M.O.B's
M.O.B's, often written as just MOBs are members who are outside of a regional system. They instead operate throughout the different regions, and occasionally even beyond that. These MOB's are not adherent to one specific member of the U.C.O, but instead operate under chiefs appointed by the full decision of the U.C.O as a whole. The MOB's are under the leadership of three chiefs:
    • The Chief of The Charter / The CTC - Mieczyslaw Mankowski
    • The Chief of The Personel / The CTP - Irenka Tylka
    • The Chief of The Relations / The CTR - Jozef Dobosz
The Chief of The Charter - CTC
The Chief of The Charter, or CTC, is the chief in charge of the U.M.T's trade routes, or specifically, planning them. It is up to The CTC to manage the logistics of running most of the U.M.T. They are in many ways the most central figure to the operations of the U.M.T. They are in charge of taking storage, keeping track on everything, and planning new routes as well as old ones.
The Chief of The Personel - CTP
The Chief of The Personel, or CTP, is the chief in charge of managing all MOB's. It's their job to manage recruitment, positioning of personel, and making sure to deliver enough manpower for all the U.M.T routes planned by the CTC. The CTP's job is essential for keeping the routes going and making sure all tasks recieve an appropriate amount of manpower. Crucially, they are the ones who most captains report to directly.
The Chief of The Relations - CTR
The Chief of The Relations, or CTR, is the chief in charge of all diplomatic relations that the U.M.T has beyond the borders of Mytograd. The CTR employs diplomats, negotiatiors, and spies, and they are in charge of maintaining, and creating new, agreements with different people all around Sundermark. Beyond this are also in charge of the U.M.T's intelligence network. They maintain spies and other operatives around Sundermark, though this area of operations is very confedential. Though rumours might exist, few outside of the leadership of the U.M.T are aware of how extensive this network truly is.
Regional Operative for the Union / R.O.U's
R.O.U's are the members, or operatives, of the U.M.T who are tied to one region in their work. Informally they are sometimes called Rouffians, as a joke on ruffians. These members are typically less involved in the politics of the U.M.T, and are often just normal people who happen to be working for the U.M.T instead of a local lord, or other ruler. Despite this, there are a few positions within each U.I.R that are held by R.O.U's:
    • Chief of Regional Management / CRM - The second-in-command to the member for the region on the U.C.O, and in charge of most business in the region. They keep things running.
    • Protector of Regional Management / PRM - The one in charge of maintaining all U.M.T assets in a region. They are responsible for both maintaining offices, docks, and other assets of the U.M.T. They are sometimes provided with manpower/mercenaries by the CTP if needed to protect their assets in the region.

  Outside hires
On occassion, figures, primarily important M.O.B's, will directly hire an outsider to assist them in their task. This is fairly uncommon, especially as the U.M.T grows and attains members of a wide array of skills, but it is done sometimes. These members are typically not listed anywhere within U.M.T documents or ledgers, as they are paid for from the pocket of the person hiring said people, not the U.M.T coffers.
There is an exceptions to this where outside-hires are done through U.M.T coffers.
C.A.S.H C.A.S.H, which is an abbreviation for Council Approved and Sanctioned Hire. This is when the U.C.O collectively agrees to hire a group or organisation to complete a service that an appointed member has been unable to complete. For example, if the CTP can not find enough manpower to crew a ship, they may request a C.A.S.H from the U.C.O, whom will then consider whether appropriate or not. If they agree to said C.A.S.H, then they can either directly look into hiring said personell, but typically they will simply hand it down to the appropriate chief, which is usually the CTP.
Originally this system was created for when there were holes in production processes in different workshops in Mytograd, back when the U.M.T had yet to become the U.M.T.W.B. However, the system has been crucial for the U.C.O, and U.M.T at large, in their expansion to different regions and areas. The system is how they manage to hire large forces of soldiers, since training, or commanding, soldiers is legally outside their charter granted by the Lordship of Mytograd. Instead they hire outside forces, often putting them on retainer for long periods of time.
When concerning questions outside of Mytograd, these hires most commonly cosist of picking up locals, mercenaries for hire, or just about any warriors to be found, though usually they are not from Mytograd. However, the U.M.T has since 1299 A.R, when an attack on one of their locales took place in Mytograd, employed their own so called D.S.H, or Domestic Security Hires. At first, in 1299 A.R this began as simply hiring locals of Mytograd as guards/security for their operations, however, in 1305 A.R, a new organisation sprung up in Mytograd, a group known as the Mytogradian Guild of Securities and Safety, or as the members of the U.M.T like to call them, the M.G.S.
The M.G.S is an organisation, or rather, a guild, of primarily former soldiers of the Lordship of Mytograd. Some of the soldiers are those whom have retired, or those who simply managed to aquire leave, and choose the M.G.S for their far better salaries. The M.G.S managed to legally aquire the same rights as the Mytogradian Adventurers Guild, arguing that they planned to serve the same purpose. The lordship granted these rights unaware of the true intentions of the M.G.S.
The M.G.S was founded by individuals on the payroll of the U.C.O, and they almost as a branch, or vassal-group of the U.M.T. They exclusively work with the U.M.T, and they are sponsored by the U.M.T. The U.M.T rents them storage and housing for their members, and grants them very very lucrative contacts, paying well above what you might expect. This is how the M.G.S has so quickly swelled, now counting nearly a hundread members in its ranks.
These M.G.S members are almost exclusively former soldiers of the lordship, some who had retired before joining, and others who were allowed to leave for better paying jobs. These members now act as the security for all U.M.T locations inside of Mytograd. They are most often seen carrying arms openly, as their Lordly Charter allows them to, though they tend to avoid armour. It's said to scare customers if they wear armour, so instead every member is given a fine green shirt, along with simple brown trousers.
There is one more Mytogradian organisation that is often contracted by the U.M.T, and that is the Arcane Guild of Mytograd. The Arcane Guild is an old guild which has existed for as long as anyone can remember. They are typically a drawn-back group of people, and for most of their history they have exclusively worked with the lordship, and otherwise stayed in what is commonly called The Arcane Estate, their headquarters and place of study.
However, since the U.M.T began expanding beyond Mytograd, they have more and more often required warriors and soldiers, and along with that, they have choosen to on occasion hire a spellcaster from the Arcane Guild of Mytograd to serve this purpose. This is something that is typically only done when serious conflict is expected, and it is a sign that the U.M.T is commited to winning said altercation. The Arcane Guild's members have mixed feeling about these assignments as they can often be quite violent, but the U.M.T pays very well, and it can be difficult to deny such offers.
The CTR's "Diplomatic Gifts" Budget Each year the CTR is granted a budget for "Diplomatic Gifts", which was originally granted with the intention to sway diplomats and traders from different regions and settlements. However, as of 1306 A.R, it would seem that the U.M.T spends an exorbitant amount on gifts. The reason the amount has grown to a ridiculous level, is because this "Diplomatic Gifts" budget in actuality mostly represents the budget for the U.M.T's intelligence network.
It's an open secret among the upper echelon of the U.M.T that if an expense like "A warhorse for the Lord of Skrzyzowanie - 500gp", or "Fine Zhunese Porcelain for the Brotherhood of The Line" it is likely fake, and simple code for the hire of certain intelligence operatives.
These intelligence operatives are often not members of U.M.T. Instead these are just figures who are put on retainer to maintain the flow of information to the U.M.T, information which is then handed up the ladder to the CTR whom presents their monthly report before the U.C.O, often containing records of the "reactions" of the recievers of the gifts.
The U.M.T retains rights to not show any budget information to the Lordship of Mytograd, unless deemed integral to Mytograds safety, so the lordship is not aware of how large this budget has truly become. Still, it's not gone unnoticed that the U.M.T's network of spies and intel has grown considerably in the last few years.

Culture

Cultural Pillars
    • Loves order - The U.M.T is known to appreciate order, they see that as intrinsic to peace, which is good for trade. Despite this, it's not beyond them to instigate conflict and create caos, as they most seek order in their own business. They love to keep track of things, lists and ledgers are everywhere in this faction. They also like logical names, and quick abbreviations.
    • Mytograd first - The U.M.T is very nationalistic. The members, at least MOB's, are all staunch Mytogradian nationalists. They believe that they hail from the greatest Rynkowskian city, with the finest folk in it. To them, the interests of their home is the reason for their expansion beyond it's borders. They seek to bring back wealth to their home, not to bring wealth to other parts of the world.
    • Aristocratic background - Most of the M.O.B's are from "decent" background in Mytograd. The organisation is deeply connected to the aristocracy of Mytograd. Among middle to upper-class families in Mytograd it is a goal of most to serve in the ranks of the U.M.T. However, there is a strong sense of disslike for those of "indecent" backgrounds. The M.O.B's often look down upon the lower class citizens of Mytograd, many of whom happen to work for the U.M.T as R.O.U's.

  Member Characteristics
There are characteristics of the members of the U.M.T that are very recognisable to those whom have had dealings with the group. The following will describe dresscode for different positions, as well as mannerisms that are commonplace among the members.
  Dresscode
In general, the members of the U.M.T bear dark green colours, the most common colour in Mytograd, however a few other colours have meaning to the members. Red means veterancy or experience; White means importance, anyone carrying white and clean clothes is assumed to be of importance; Bronze is the colour of the U.C.O and the chiefs, this gives a nod to the poorer history of the founding members.
The U.M.T members don't carry any medals or the like to show rank, instead their rank is shown by their caps. See, all U.M.T M.O.B's carry a cap, even when they don't wear one. Each U.M.T M.O.B is given a belt along with a cap at their joining of the organisation.
The belt is a simple leather one, with what begins as a simple steel buckle, and as for the cap, it's a simple dark green or brown fore-and-aft style bicorne cap. The belt is outfitted with a small metal belt loop, and the cap has a small hook on the aft of the cap, letting the carrier hang their cap safely at their side. These caps will, as a M.O.B rises through the ranks, be recoloured and small buttons carrying the insiginia of the U.M.T will be hung on it's front. Each position corresponds to a number of buttons, though it's not always the case that you get more buttons with each promotion.
U.M.T Cap
An example of someone wearing what would considered the standard hat/cap for the M.O.B's of the U.M.T

These hats are also a part of the history of the U.M.T, as they are made from wool originating from Tidebreaker Keep and the Knights of Arcadia. The trade route was established in the first expedition sanctioned and sponsored by the Lordship of Mytograd, and as a reward for their success the U.M.T was granted an extensive charter from the lordship. This was a monumental moment for the expansion of the U.M.T beyond their base in Mytograd.
These caps have become synonymous with M.O.B's, to the point where they are exclusively sold to the organisation, which maintains a monopoly on the rights to purchase said type of cap.
