Meren, God of the Hearth (MAIR-inn)

Domains: Life, Peace, Protection

Description

Meren is depicted as a young, barefooted woman tending the hearth, her hair pulled back under a scarf, and ash smearing her skin. Her eyes are grey, and sparkle with a spark of mischief like dancing firelight.

Personality

Meren is for the most part uninvolved in the quarrels, politics and escapades of the other deities. Instead, she prefers to focus on her role as a simple house deity, honoured with simple sacrifices, by simple people, on tiny domestic altars.

Activity

Priests of Meren are usually common people, and often farm the land or work at some trade in addition to organizing services dedicated to the worship of Meren. Her priests bless new homes, consecrate the hearth altars found in nearly every home, and conduct ceremonies related to family celebrations, such births, birthdays, and other rites of passage.

Tenets & Ideals

Meren's faith is a simple one. She teaches the virtues of home and family life, the sweet rewards of labor, and the blessings of food and rest. She encourages common people to take pleasure in the gifts of life as they come, giving thanks to the gods for every earthly blessing.
