Richard 'Sly Dick' Burgaenais

Richard Burgaenais is a medium height, gangly middle-aged human male. He is 5’8” and weighs roughly 9 stone wet. His receding hair is thinning at the crown and grey at the sides, while the remainder still retains it oaky brown colour. He has fair, soft skin (a trait of his unsociable, honest and dishonest, working hours) and he retains youthful, albeit gaunt features. He could pass for late 30’s if it weren’t for the crow’s feet and whitening hair. A suspected trait Sly Dick possesses, but has never publicly confirmed, is he is double jointed. Many theorise it is the only way he would be able to accomplish his daring, near-impossible heists.

Richard Burgaenais was born in … to poor, low-born … parents. An unassuming weedy child, he led an unremarkable childhood. He, however, came into his own as adolescence came crashing upon him. As any young man would at his age, he began courting. However, as anyone will attest, it was an expensive endeavour and Richard turned to crime to meet his financial obligations. His early experiences were brutish forced entry thefts, but after several lashes and many a day spent in the pillory, Burgaenais erred on the side of caution and introduced finesse to his ‘work’. He perfected his craft over the coming years, allowing him to increase his earnings and strike at larger, more affluent estates. His notoriety in the criminal underworld grew and he quickly earned the moniker ‘Sly Dick’. Sly Dick became a dryland pirate, amassing great wealth without having earned it. His lithe, gangly frame allowing him to slip through gaps and nooks any normal human man could not. Inevitably, it was the same reason that pushed Richard down his path of crime that compelled him to leave it behind: The fairer sex.   A raven haired woman crossed his path, and for the first time in his life, Burgaenais fell victim to theft as he discovered his heart stolen. So smitten was he, that he took what treasure he had accumulated, fenced it all at once, despite his better judgement, and build the Halfway Inn to earn a legitimate wage for the first time in his life. However, fate would have him pay for his crime in a cruel way. His paramour, being a maid in a stately household in the city nearest to The Halfway Inn, was betrothed to another servant of the house to continue the hereditary work title. A great honour for her and her house. Sadly, for the newly reformed Burgaenais, his love would go unfulfilled, if maybe not unrequited, and he was left with all his life’s savings buried deep in the Halfway Inn, and so he worked a legitimate job to make it a success…and go straight.
