Stoneforge Mines

The upper entrance to the mine consists of a quarry, about 60 feet deep. Ramps, about 20 feet wide, are carved into the edge to allow for ease of travel to the bottom. At the base, there is a landing zone, numerous tables around the edges for miners to sit and rest. One one wall, there is a doorway carved in, about 15 feet wide and 20 feet tall. Beyond the door is a large domed chamber. Around the outside wall there is benches and areas to store large mine carts. In the center of the room is a square elevator leading down, about 20 feet by 20 feet.   At the base of the elevator is the lower staging area for the mines. About 15 feet from the elevator base is a table with a large book in place for the miners to sign in and out of the mines. Large mine carts are packed against one of the back walls. Against another wall is carved large stalls for the Goraks (more commonly called haulers by the Dwarves). The haulers are used to drag massive mining carts through the mines as well as a faster means of travel to the more distant mines, taking about 6 hours to go from the base to the 12th zone. . The Stoneforge mines consist of one long, major tunnel, and branching off from that are numerous mining zones. The mining zones are 5 miles apart, taking about 1.5 hours on foot to travel from one to the next.   There are currently 12 zones within the mines.
