Halda Nura

Halda Nura is a dense, thriving forest that encompasses over half the country of Pharomoor.

History

About 700 years ago, in the year 1603 PC, a group of druids, at the demand of Tavidrell Marvhoren, the reigning king of that time, attempted to weave magic into various plants. The intent was to create more hardy crops that could survive the harsh soils of Pharomoor. It took several years for their attempts to produce a successful result. Initially, this appeared to work and the lower regions of the country surrounding the capital of the time, Pharbollen, prospered with the new crops.   However, within a few short years, the plant life started to rapidly grow out of control. It began to spread in an almost aggressive fashion, the rapid growth affecting not only the crops, but other forms of plant life in the area as well, such as trees. The king ordered that the plants be destroyed, and soon, the majority of the plants in southern Pharomoor were lit a blaze.   All seemed well for nearly a year when, without warning, the plants re-surged with vengeance. In a matter of weeks, large vines, trees, and a host of other forms of plant life had sprung forth, devastating farms, villages, and cities, turning them to ruin. While some fled north, many fled to Pharbollen, which had turned their small military against the forest. The once proud city managed to hold out for nearly two months before being overrun and succumbing to nature. Meanwhile, the forest continued to spread outwards, overtaking much of the land during the following months. Its growth gradually slowed and eventually stopped, seeming to have reached its limit. A distinct end to the forest now mar Pharomoors landscape.   Some have tried on several occasions to push the forest back, being met with aggressive resistance every time. Others have entered the forest, but those who wander too deep are rarely seen again. This has resulted in many myths and rumors about the forest to arise. Some say it is a single entity, others think it cursed, while others believe it to have tapped into an additional source of magic which caused the resurgence. None have been proven one way or the other.

Fauna & Flora

The forest is home to a rapidly growing series of plants. The area is dominated by tall, thick trees, primarily elm, oak, willow, and chestnut. The wide sprawling tree branches intertwine, making navigation within the forest extremely difficult. In addition to the trees, bountiful species of ferns, mosses, vines, and shrubs thrive in the forest.

Wildlife

Within the forest there is surprisingly little wildlife. The majority of wildlife residing within the forest is bugs, insects, and small animals.
