Spells and Scrolls
Identify a Spell Scroll
Either study the scroll during a short rest or cast identify.
Cast a Spell from a Scroll
If the spell is on your class’s spell list, use an action to read the scroll and cast its spell.
If the spell is of a higher level than you can normally cast, you must make a check using your spellcasting ability, DC = 10 + spell level.
After casting (or failing), the spell disappears and the scroll crumbles.
The spell’s save DC and attack bonus depend on the level of the spell:
| Level | Save DC | Attack Bonus |
|---|---|---|
| 0-2 | 13 | +5 |
| 3-4 | 15 | +7 |
| 5-6 | 17 | +9 |
| 7-8 | 18 | +10 |
| 9 | 19 | +11 |
Copy a Spell to Your Spellbook
A spell may be copied from a scroll or from another spellbook.
The spell must be of a level for which you have spell slots.
If copying from a scroll, make an Intelligence (Arcana) check, DC = 10 + spell level.
Time: 2 hours per spell level (1 hour if copying from your own spellbook)
Cost: 50 gp per spell level (10 gp if copying from your own spellbook)
If copying from a scroll, the scroll is destroyed (even if the Arcana check failed).
