Norse Pantheon
"I am of the first and have sacrificed much to know what I do. I am the All-Father and you must prove your worth to me." - Odin
Odin was one of the first beings to come into existence. He and his siblings are responsible for forming the world and creating at least some portion of the human race. Odin is the leader of the Norse Gods and the holder of secret and forbidden magic and knowledge. Odin gave one of his eyes for superior wisdom and keeps to ravens with hims that tell him all they see and hear as they fly through Zeimia. Odin is a Neutral Good God whose domain is Knowledge and War. His symbol is a watching blue eye and he normally resides in Valhalla
Tenets:
- Seek out hidden knowledge wherever it may hide, but not at the cost of compassion.
- Battles between the strong is sacred, but never use your strength to oppress the weak. Those who do must be punished.
- You must be able to overcome challenges by yourself, but do not take help for granted when offered.
"I am a friend of the gods and their followers when it is the time of the Great Feast. However... it is not the time of the Great Feast." - Aegir
Aegir is a sea giant who controls the weather and ocean around his island. The extent of his power is unknown and it could very well be that he merely chooses to influence only the weather and sea near his home. Once a year, Aegir hosts an enormous feast for the Norse gods and has seemingly become their friend. Whether this is because of true feelings of friendship or fear of the might of the gods is hard to say. Aegir is Neutral Evil with his domain being the Tempest. His sign is rough ocean waves.
Tenets:
- Hospitality is sacred. Never harm your guests or be disrespectful to your hosts.
- People, like the sea, are treacherous. Trust only what you can control.
- If friend proves unworthy, end them.
"I have brought great harvests and life as I always have and ask for nothing in return." - Balder
Balder is said to be so beautiful that he radiated light off of himself. He is loved by almost all creation. Harvests, food, agriculture and poetry is what he brings into the world. It is no secret that Balder was murdered and the gods have tried to bring him back to life. Though his body is gone, Balder's spirit and influence still lingers. Balder is Neutral Good with the domains of Light and Life. A gem-encrusted chalice is his symbol.
Tenets:
- All life is worthy of respect and compassion.
- Helping yourself is good, but helping those in need is divine.
- An evil man is but a lost soul that needs a shepard.
"You have come for my judgement and my judgement you will have. You have been warned." - Forseti
Forseti is the god of Justice and Law with a glistening hall that welcomes gods and mortals alike who can not have disputes decided otherwise. Not much is known of this god as he does not venture out or meddle much with the affairs of mortals. He is known as fair and just with wisdom enough to settle the disputes given to him. He is a True Neutral god with his domain being Light and his symbol being the head of a bearded man.
Tenets:- Law was made to bring justice, however, justice may deem some laws obsolete.
- Hear the masses and teach them right from wrong.
- A corrupt court is to be reviled. Tear them down wherever you find them.
"Do not despair. I bring hope for times to come." - Freyr
Freyr is a beloved god that brings fertility and good harvest. Brother of the goddess Freya, he is a NG god who helps mortals to reproduce and feed themselves. It is speculated that he created or is somehow associated with the Elven race, but there is little evidence for either. His domains are life and light and his symbol is an Ice-Blue Great Sword.
Tenets:
- Creating life in any form is sacred.
- Despair not in the dark times. Even the smallest light can bring hope for a brighter day.
- Strength has value, but Love is priceless.
"Those who are with me have known my kindness and blessings. Those who are against me know nothing soon after." - Freya
Freya is the most beautiful of the goddesses and sister to Freyr. She is the goddess of love and sex as well as being formidable in her own right. Freya is in charge of the legendary Valkyries and claims some of the souls that die valiant deaths for an unknown purpose. She is a NG Goddess whose domain is life. Her symbol is a falcon.
Tenets:
- Let none pressure you. Your will is your own.
- You might not like some people, but they are still worth protecting.
- Keep your inner fire burning. It is useful in both combat and love.
"Come to me those who cannot protect themselves. I shall shield you." - Frigga
Frigga is the wife of Odin and the protector of mothers, children, and the infirm. While she protects those who need her protection, her might and fury keep those who take advantage of the weak in check. She is a N Goddess whose domain is Light and Life. Frigga's symbol is a cat.
Tenets:
- Be a comforting breeze to those who can't protect themselves and a hurricane to those who would harm them.
- Family is the most precious part of life.
- Doing what is right and doing as you're told are not always the same.
"You are free to do as you wish, but choose carefully. I can see all Zeimia's sins. I am always watching." - Heimdall
Heimdall is the watchman of the gods with the ability and responsibility to watch and see anywhere in the universe. It is said that he has a special horn that he will only blow to signal the start of Ragnarok. He is a LG god with light and war domains. His symbol is a curling musical horn.
Tenets:
- Observe before taking action. Not everything is as it seems.
- Inaction can lead to harm, but rash actions can lead to disaster.
- Do not become complacent. Even a close friend is capable of great evil.
"I have gathered the weak and unworthy. I have given them new purpose and direction where you have turned your back. Together, we will bring your end." - Hel
Hel is the daughter of Loki and rules the realm that bears her name. Those of the Norse who die dishonorable deaths are forced to her dominion. She is said to be one of the main forces of evil that would bring about Ragnarok. Her domain is Death and her symbol is a woman's face that is rotting on one side. Hel is a Neutral Evil goddess.
Tenets:
- Do not give your enemies the privilege of an honorable death.
- Undeath is something to aspire to, not fear.
- The darkness is where we are strong. Move and work through the shadows.
"I rode to Hel and back unscathed. Do you think you are that lucky?" - Hermod
Hermod is a god of luck and the messenger sent to bring Baldur's resurrection. He is very mysterious and little but his trip to Hel is known about him. Hermod is a Chaotic Neutral god with the trickery Domain. His symbol is a winged scroll.
"I have been beaten, spit on, betrayed, tortured, watched me children be killed or worse, and a great deal more. Will you not show me some kindness?" - Loki
Loki is the god of thieves and trickery. He has been known to be mischievous and to test all the god's patience, but was always the one to solve any problems that he may have caused. Now, however, Loki's influence has dwindled which leads many to believe that he has crossed a line too far. He is a Chaotic Evil god whose sign is a flame.
Tenets:
- Do as you will. Let nothing hold you back from your desires.
- Doing work is all well and good, but tricking someone else to do it for you is much more enjoyable.
- If something is not to your liking, cause it to change.
"You have trespassed on my mountains. For your sake, you better have good reason." - Skadi
Skadi is a Giant who has authority over earth and mountains, specifically. Skiing down the mountains while hunting with her bow is how she spends most of her time. Skadi's domain is nature and she is a Neutral Giant/goddess. Her symbol is a mountain peak.
Tenets:
- Respect nature in all its forms.
- Do not consume more than can be replaced.
- Protect nature from those that would pervert or subjugate it.
"Do not be mistaken. The worlds will burn. All of creation will be put my hands and I will crush it to ash. Until then, I wait." - Surtur
Surtur is the god/Giant of fire giants and war. He plans to destroy the world but bides his time until the opportune moment. He is a giant that is wreathed in flame and burns all in his wake. War is his domain and Surtur is Lawful Evil. A Flaming Sword is his symbol.
Tenets:
- There is a hierarchy to the universe. Know your place or die to your betters.
- Prepare for my coming and end those that would oppose it.
- Wage glorious war and raze the grounds in your wake.
"I don't see what the problem is. If he is a problem, then smash him. If he is not, then smash the one who is. What is there to talk about?" - Thor
Thor is the god of storms and thunder, wielder of Mjolnir, and son of Odin. While not one of the brightest gods, Thor is easily the strongest. He is the guardian of the Aesir and the one most feared by their enemies. His domain is Tempest and war and Thor's symbol is Mjolnir, his hammer. Thor is a Chaotic Good god.
Tenets:
- In an argument, the strongest one is right.
- Prove your strength and find glory.
- Giants are the enemy. Slay as many as you are able.
"I will have what I want. I am open to negotiate but I will have what I want." - Thrym
Thrym is giant king of Jotunheim and has authority over frost giants and the cold. He regularly tries to send frost giants over the mountain border to wreak havoc. War is Thrym's domain, he is Chaotic Evil, and his symbol is a white, double-bladed axe.
Tenets:
- It is in war that our worth is tested and proven.
- Bitter winter is the where the weak are weeded out. Prove your strength by surviving where it is cold and desolate.
- The Aesir are our enemies. Kill their followers.
"There is more going on then meets the eye. Fenrir take my other hand if I am wrong." - Tyr
Tyr is the god of courage and strategy. He lost his right hand to Fenrir when the gods tricked the giant wolf. Tyr is always level headed and posses intelligence rivaled by few other gods. He is Lawful Neutral, has knowledge and war domains, and his symbol is a sword.
Tenets:
- When sacrifice is needed for victory, don't flinch.
- Know the rules of the game to make the best play.
- Emotion can make you irrational. Don't let it interfere with your logic.
