Sleeth

In the grasslands and desert bordered by mountains, live the Sleeth. First encountered by the explorers Lorshi & Noryl Vinaluked in their epic mapping of the lands of Bomaz and Shilleri, they are fierce feline hunters that glide swiftly down onto their prey by using the parachute-like membrane linking their fore and hind legs. They are also found along the borders between Thanyn and Vellin.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Sleeth are feline creatures that stand 2-2.5 feet (60-75cm) at the shoulder. Between their fore and hind leg stretches a length of elastic skin that can be used to glide from great heights.

Ecology and Habitats

Dry mountains and the grasslands and deserts surrounding them.

Dietary Needs and Habits

These creatures stalk their prey by waiting and watching from the mountainsides until the prey is in range, then leaping into the air and gliding swiftly down toward them to attack. Since the fur of the belly and inner wings reflects the amount of ambient light, they seem to strike suddenly and invisibly. Often these creatures are solitary, but there have been reports of group attacks of 3-5 sleeth.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

They are found on the dry western edge of the Lannuel mountains and in the plains and desert to the east of them. They are also located along the borders of the western mountains of the Vellin.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
The fur on their backs is a warm, sandy color mixed with darker brown, indistinct markings. The fur on their bellies and the inside of these gliding wings has a strange property that causes them to change with the time of day. (Light in the daytime and dark at night.)
