Era of Predation

The time in prehistory before the coming of magic and the emergence of the lesser creatures when the mythic creatures sought sustenance by eating sentient creatures.  

Kashon

Oval or round cabochon-like mark on the foreheads of magic users and shape shifters. Possibly some type of bone/horn growth.  

-ked

(Zaanri only) A suffix meaning "child of" which used as a Zaanri's second name. So "Namlyn Runlaked" is Namlyn, child of Runla.  

Kother

(Zaanri only) The twin brother or sister to a person’s mother. They use the words "aunt" and "uncle" for their mother's siblings who are not her twin.

Notes:
  • A momother is the mother to both the mother and the kother of a person.
  • Zaanri are usually unaware of who their fathers are. Their closest male relatives are their kother (if male) and their uncles.

Spoke

Half of a season - there are 8 “spokes” in a year. Each spoke is 45 days long.  

Trine

When all three moons are full at the same time… occurs once every nine years. This term is used interchangeably for the day that all three moons are full at the same time and for the period of special fertility including the spoke before and after the day of the trine.  

-zen

(Zaanri only) A gender neutral suffix denoting high rank. Instead of saying "Huntmaster" or "Huntmistress" we would say "Huntzen."
