Zaclanan Railways Class 11
The Zaclanan Railways Class 11 was a class of five 2-6-2 saddle tank locomotives built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in America for use by the British Railway Operating Division during the First World War. In Zaclana, they were mostly used for local goods trains and shunting due to their small coal capacity.
During the First World War, the Baldwin Locomotive Works built various locomotives for use on the Western Front the engines were later sold off as the British Government had little use for them. Some 2-6-2ST locomotives went to Belgium whereas some "Pershing" 2-8-0s went to Romania, Seven locomotives came to Zaclana after the retirement of the final class 1s and first class 3s was announced, with two others going into industrial service. The locomotives were based at Hylemelle, Chagneux and Highchapel for their whole working life venturing out on rare occasions when they were required to pull short local goods trains. Due to reliability issues, in 1926 all five were heavily rebuilt with the fitting of new fireboxes, boiler fittings and water injectors. They were used on Zaclana until 1959 when they began to be withdrawn, the last survived until 1974 running ballast trains.
One ZR Class 11 has been preserved, №60 was the last to be withdrawn and instead of being scrapped ot was purchased by the Zaclanan Heritage Association and was plinthed outside Highchapel Station. One other was preserved after being used by C. King Railway Contractors, it is currently in derelict condition near Meford.
