Zaclanan Railways № 32
Zaclanan Railways № 32 is the sole surviving member of the Class 6 0-6-2 tank engines. She was built in 1890 by the Couillet Locomotive Works in Belgium to a design by Arthur Foster-Pitts. She mostly ran commuter trains in and around Aerestrand.
She was relocated to Aldyrn in 1907 to run local passenger trains as the newer Zaclanan Railways Class 9 were replacing them on the faster paced suburban trains. She also ran goods trains over the line when needed but they were often mixed trains in later years. № 32 was sold in 1929 to the Serpent's Ridge Colliery Company and was given cut down cab and boiler fittings (dome, chimney etc) to negotiate the slightly smaller loading gauge to the coal staithes. She was also given a second set of buffers to run with older goods wagons used on the SRCC system. She was modified heavily over the years, obtaining a new boiler, the brake pump was moved ontop of one of the side tanks and the frames were replaced entirely on two occasions.
By 1941, she was the last of her class in service even if her outside apperance was very different to how she was delivered. In 1962, № 32 was found dumped behind the shed missing various parts but was saved when the newly formed Zaclanan Heritage Association purchased her and cosmetically restored her to her 1930s apperance as the missing parts could be salvaged from other locomotives on the colliery. After a repaint, № 32 was put on display at the Zaclanan Railway & Transport Museum in Aerestrand. It wasn't until 1998 when she was restored to her Zaclanan Railways appearance as a new set of blueprints were discovered in the house of an ex - Zaclanan Railways signalman. She is still on display cosmetically restored as ZR № 32. There are plans to fully overhaul her to run main line railtours.
