Keihei Tropics

The northeastern region of Fokuhai consists of massive rainforests and flooding wetlands. The ground is rocky and sandy, mostly unsuitable for farming. The weather is also dangerous, often consisting of harsh storms and extreme heat. Despite this, vast and diverse ecosystems persists in all parts of the region, throughout the entire year.

Geography

Keihei has rugged terrain, with many tall hills and unexpected cliffs. Its coast is found in the north and east, against the Daehan Ocean. The higher ground is mostly covered in shattered jungles, while the lower ground is typically swampy.

Climate

Running through the equator and lacking any natural barriers from ocean weather, Keihei is a volatile tropical environment. In the long and harsh wet season, frequent rainstorms and hurricanes bombard the land. Though lacking the stronger percipitation, the dry season is commonly assaulted with heat waves near the summer solstace.

Fauna & Flora

Ecosystems here are ruled by life resistent to the extreme heat and dangerously heavy rainstorms.

Keihei's jungles require adaptations specific to the always-moist, always-hot environment. The rocky soil allows water to drain quickly, so ground plants often have long or complex roots to avoid being washed away. Many smaller plants collect water through their stems or leaves, dying during the dry season while their offspring lay dormant until the wet season to kickstart their growth. Animals live in every layer of the trees, larger animals roaming the forest floors while others traverse the heavy branches.

The swamps of Keihei are almost always flooded, preventing many land-based species from living there. Aquatic and amphibious life thrives in the slow-moving brackish water, but must be resistent to the stronger currents from storms. Trees hold the muddy soil together with the thick roots lifting, providing small islands for animals to rest and congregate on. Many parasites take advantage of the murky water, where sight is greatly diminished.

Natural Resources

Plant-based materials—such as fruits, herbs, and wood—can be found everywhere, as plant life is plentiful throughout the region. Water, although similarly abundant, is usually not ready for use immedietly. In jungle areas, it needs to be artificially collected due to the quickly-draining soil. In wetland areas, it often needs to be desalinated due to ocean saltwater mixing into the swamp's incoming freshwater. In both situations, the water needs to be purified for drinking to avoid sickness, especially if it comes from a stagnant or slow-moving water source.
