Zythara (Zith-Are-Uh)
Though not technically a species, zythara are near enough in their outward actions to living creatures that they are often documented alongside them. Zythara are the stone guardians of the spires, nowadays used for many other tasks as well. They are made of pure, solid lagnite, but are much harder to melt than most lagnite is. Outwardly, they appear as tall, humanlike statues with thickly feathered stone wings and sharp fangs set in both their top aand bottom jaws. They understand all languages by instinct but cannot speak, read or write. They follow instructions, often acting as guards or laborers, which they are excellent at due to their tireless nature. They can fly, but to do so they have to flap their enormous wings so powerfully that the downward force of the wind can collapse fragile buildings. Their wings have other uses too, though. They use them to strike with in combat, and can produce incredibly fast and powerful blasts of wind by beating their wings together at supersonic speeds. Often the mere sound of it stuns enemies. Zythara are faster and stronger than any living creature on Yull and are thus used as guards for the most high-security areas on the planet. Before the worldsoul was taken from Yull, a new zythara could be made by carefully sculpting lagnite into the correct shape and 'awakening' it by throwing it off a high point (usually partway up a spire) and letting it fly. Zythara can make decisions for themselves, but always give their loyalty to one person or job, rather than going rogue by themselves. The word 'zythara' translates to 'ever-vigilant ones'.
