Mapping Yull

As mentioned in the meteorology article, Yull turns around a series of different axis. It switches between theses smoothly and at regular intervals, causing all of Yull toi get even sunlight and eliminating the possibility of an arctic or antarctic. It also means, however, that to those living on Yull it often looks like the sun is passing in a different part of the sky then the day before. The pattern of the rotation is complex enough that, while it has been figured out and can be drawn as a combination of a map and a calender, most people do not rely on the sun to tell directions. Yull also has no magnetic pole strong enough to make compasses very effective. This being said, how do people find their way about Yull? The answer is simpler than one might think: Veins. As said in the introduction, Yull's surface is made mostly of lagnite, a material with a surface similar to that of marble. The surface of Yull isn't made of broken up lagnite though, it's made of a single, huge piece that heals itself with the power of the worldsoul when broken. This piece of lagnite has several massive, dark veins crisscrossing it, and these are used as roads since they are already mostly smooth and stay in one place, allowing people to tell directions by them. the largest of these veins is Chuxcolatl, which marks the center of most yYullian maps. These veins are not always necessary though. If you catch them at the right time, you can follow the locustai on their occasional migration to another area after depleting the food source of the one they were in. The other species of Yull don't know how they tell directions.   The two navigation methods above are the easiest and have been used for millenia. However, there are a few skilled tradespeople and navigators for hire who can and do use the newer method of carrying a wayfinder with them and tracking the sun. It involves a fair bit of math to stay on a strait course, but they are rewarded with shorter traveling time.
