Magical Healing
There is a threshold of time to recover someone from death’s door - the body can be dead itself, but it has to be capable of supporting life again - e.g. not in pieces - and the soul cannot have gone far from the body in order to be resurrected. Like D&D, there is a ritual that can be attempted after the first handful of minutes have passed, so long as the body itself is not decayed, but the more time passes, the worse the body will be upon revival, the harder it will be to retrieve and reinsert the soul, the higher risk of madness, etc. It’s possible to wind up creating an undead individual, if the body has decayed or dried too much but the soul (and thus mind) is intact and still strong. This is also how one gets zombies - by waiting too long after death, either by accident or on purpose, and working with a lost soul.
