The Knowledge Wizard

(a.k.a. Lorrick)

Lorrick “The Knowledge Wizard” dresses like a conjurer from a children’s puppet show and talks like he’s selling snake oil at a county fair—because that’s exactly what he’s doing. His cramped shop is a labyrinth of dusty shelves stacked with mismatched “mystic relics” that still carry price tags from Oldetowne Market. For a few silver, he’ll “divine your fate” by squinting at tea leaves, shuffling a sticky deck of cards, or “consulting the spirits” (which usually means staring out the window until he remembers a bit of local gossip). Every now and then, one of his predictions hits uncomfortably close to the mark, which only fuels his reputation and keeps the gullible flowing through his door. Whether those moments are actual flashes of insight or just the law of averages is anyone’s guess—Lorrick isn’t telling, and business is good.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Lorrick claims he was “trained by the Seers of Adrea” and “initiated into the Nine Veils of Truth” but in reality, he grew up above his aunt’s pawn shop in Rag-Row. His early years were spent sweeping floors, listening to sailors haggle over bad deals, and memorizing the little tricks his aunt used to make junk sound priceless. He drifted between odd jobs—market barker, fake auctioneer, street-card hustler—until a short stint as a stage magician gave him the idea to lean into mysticism full-time.

Education

Lorrick never saw the inside of a formal academy—unless you count the time he was thrown out of a Lacliosa lecture hall for selling “enchanted” bookmarks to the students. His real schooling came from Rag-Row’s back alleys and market stalls, where he learned the mathematics of a quick sale, the psychology of a mark, and the art of telling a story so well people forget to check if it’s true. He taught himself basic stage magic from a waterlogged “Illusions for All Ages” booklet and picked up scraps of fortune-telling techniques from gossip rags, traveling carnival mystics, and anyone drunk enough to talk shop. To this day, his most reliable source of “arcane wisdom” is the overheard conversation.

Lorrick, the so-called Knowledge Wizard, is a rumpled old charlatan who wraps gossip and guesswork in the trappings of arcane prophecy. His shop is a cluttered warren of dusty trinkets, fake relics, and “enchanted” objects that still have their price tags from Oldetowne Market. He survives on a mix of tourist gullibility, petty cons, and just enough unsettlingly accurate guesses to keep the rumors—and customers—coming back.
