The Companions
The companions and the Manor Gilfiel in Kordsmark
An ancient and storied adventuring party, said to have been started and led by Marin Liadon, this was said to have been from around the time of the First Origin war.
During this time it was incredibly unusual for a dwarf and elf to be friendly with one another, but due to Marin going and spending a large amount of her life in Barak Mor as a diplomat for the elven court she had a much greater appreciation for dwarven culture and had become very good friends with Dain Moordun, the son and heir of the High clan leader of the time.
This was frowned upon by many of both courts as tensions between the dwarves and elves were high, as this was during the time of the lead up to the revolution of the dwarves and them declaring themselves as a separate sovereign state, which would be the start of the first origin war.
Before war broke out though, Marin and Dain hatched a plan together to see a bit more of the world and go searching for treasure and glory.
It was then that Marin and Dain ignored the orders and commands of their superiors and left Barak Mor together in search of adventure and travel. Marin and Dain brought along some friends and the group set out, calling themselves The Companions, with the goal of seeing the world and make a name for themselves.
Marin Liadon - elven emissary and diplomat from the House of Syldan
Dain Moordun - first son and heir of High Clan Leader
Ravalynn Gilfiel Vasra - Childhood friend / Attendant of Marin - elven cleric of Sehanine
Rileath Vasra - brother of Ravalynn, elven knife duelist
Falrich Stoneburrow - halfling Wizard/Bard, friend and companion of Dain.
The five companions set forth and quickly made a name for themselves, the unusual group of three elves, a dwarf and a halfling all working together, and seemingly getting along exceedingly well, was a very unusual sight in the world at that time.
The companions set out in search of the wild parts of the world and the lesser explored places within the land.
Their first truly heroic act that was recored in the histories was when they defended a small hunting town in the far northern reaches from an attacking band of frost giants. It was during this fight that Dain was killed. Thankfully Ravalynn was able to use her magic healing to keep him from slipping away too far and was able to bring him back from death.
It was after this that Dain and Ravalynn began their relationship. Something completely unheard of in society at the time, a Dwarf and an Elf falling in love, but it happened, Ravalynn was a quiet an unassuming individual most of the time, Dain being the boisterous and talkative one. But something happened when Dain was brought back from death, something between the two changed, and the two didn’t look at each other the same again.
It was only a few years later when the first Origin war began and the world was thrown into turmoil. The companions didn’t know what to do with themselves. Dain and Marin as members of important families were being called back home to join their people in the fighting, but none wanted to leave what they had and for a time they stayed out of the fight, remaining in the wild parts of the world.
The companions were present when a massive battle broke out in their part of the world, A large Dwarven army had been sent by the High Clan Leader, Dain’s Father, in search of Dain. And a similarly sized elven force had shadowed them, eventually the two forces met and fought, it was this fight during which the goliath barbarians attacked and Kord made himself known sending down his arbiter to take the fallen champion to his hall, the presence of the Arbiter and its touch on the goliath’s form blessed him and turned him to light, leaving behind his weapons and armor.
The fighting after that ended and the forces pulled back, witnesses of the battle and the will of Kord, settling down in a camp around the location of the battle.
Shortly afterwards, both Marin and Dain reluctantly agreed to return to their homes with their respective armies.
Before leaving, Marin managed to get her hands onto the blade of the goliath who had fallen. And she took Rileath with her when she left.
Dain left but instead of taking a relic with him, he instead gave a relic to Ravalynn, he gave her his family ring, that of the heir of Moordun. Promising to return to her one day. Leaving he took Falrich with him.
The only one who stayed behind was Ravalynn, who refused to be a part of the war, and who pleaded with the others to convince their families that this conflict was stupid and wasteful.
Unfortunately in the next couple years, the fighting did not slacken, it only got worse and worse. Then after Talthas retreated one of his Tears took a shot at the High Clan leader, but instead of poisoning the High Clan Leader, Dain was poisoned instead, succumbing to a devastating and painful poison that killed far too quickly for anyone to stop it.
After hearing about this far too late to do anything about it Ravalynn lost herself to sorrow and despair. She had made a home for herself in the place people were now calling Kordsmark. And Ravalynn lost what was left of herself shortly thereafter when she heard about the fall of Lothien and the death of Marin and her brother.
Ravalynn was then said to have become a recluse and seemed to be wasting away slowly. The only person it was said that she allowed into her home was Falrich, who came to visit her when he heard about their friends.
It was said that when he left her home he was far more distraught than he was even when he entered. It was a short time after that when people stopped seeing Ravalynn at all, and when eventually a few months later neighbors went to her door they found it unlocked and the home empty of life.
Little did anyone know but Ravalynn had entombed herself under her home, she had carved and shaped a stone statue of Dain and laid it to rest there atop a stone platform. She had also left enough room on the platform for herself, and with a last word to Falrich, asking him to hide her tomb so that she and Dain could sleep forever. He had reluctantly agreed seeing there was no reasoning with Ravalynn and wanting to honor her last request.
Ravalynn laid herself on the platform next to the likeness of Dain, and tearfully transformed herself to stone. The ring of her love on her hand, clutched tightly to her chest.
Falrich, sealed the tomb that Ravalynn had created, and his only addition was to inscribe a rune into the center of the flagstone. An ancient dwarven rune that means rest, or peace.
A few years after the town realized that Ravalynn was gone, someone new moved into the home, it changed hands a few times over the next few years, and eventually ended up in the hands of Osmin Falzor, due to the curse that he unknowingly had Tiv put on the place.
Osmin died around 20 years later due to unrelated circumstances, leaving behind no living heirs. When Osmin died however, this was after Tiv had already been imprisoned, so the deal and information relating to it has been largely ignored for around 2000 years.
