Tale of Malruthiia and Tivreot
As told by Lorekeeper Laisren
Many years ago around the time that Laisren himself joined the court (2500 ish years) - an eladrin lord came calling at The Horned King’s court, he was a flighty and impetuous lord completely enamored with his own power and he had a plan to try and kill the Horned King, the ultimate goal being to take the Horned Kings place and the power that went along with it. It was a truly foolish plan and destined for failure.
Among this Lords retinue were many other eladrin and fey creatures, among them the lord had two of his mounts, a massive powerful Heart, and a smaller but incredibly quick and agile antelope with very strange tall spiraling antlers. He bragged about both many times, talking of how he had gotten the better of a rival of his, and how he had won the rivals children as a result of the deal, and how he had then transformed those children into beasts that he rode as mounts.
When inevitably the plot for the fey lord to betray The Horned King was revealed and he was on his knees pleading for his life he offered his two prize mounts to the Horned King, hoping that this could buy him some form of clemency.
The Horned King accepted the gift and when the two magnificent beasts were brought before him he reached out a hand and lightly stroked the two on their brows, there was a flash of magical power and The Horned King then spoke to the two.
“I have granted you understanding of what happens here today, I have cleared the fog from your minds and ask you what do you think this Lord’s fate should be?”
Both the Heart and Antelope bucked and frisked about, fully awoken and aware of all around them for the first time in a very long time, the Antelope answered the question when she charged forwards and speared the eladrin lord through the chest with her long spiral antlers. The heart was right behind her kicking the lord viciously in the head with his large and powerful hooves.
The lord died there gored and trampled by his own prized mounts.
Afterwards The Horned King waved his hand beckoning both the Stag and Antelope forwards, when they reached him he spoke to them in their minds, what he asked is not know to any but The Horned King and the two. After a brief time, The Horned King waved his hands over the two, transforming them, their shapes shrinking and reshaping, until two humanoids stood where the two beasts had been, now part eladrin, part beast, both with their antlers remaining as the last visible remnants of what they once were.
“I free you from the servitude you were bound to, and as a gift I grant you both a new name, Malruthiia and Tivreot, should you wish you may leave this place and find your own way in the world, or if you wish you may swear your fealty to me and I promise to you I shall be a fair and generous liege, I reward those who do me good service, and do not ask that of my vassals what I have not or would not do myself.”
The two almost siblings very quickly dropped to their knees and swore their fealty very clearly understanding what a generous offer that truly was.
Soon the two became powerful members of The Horned Kings court, their strange and powerful forms in connection with their re-awoken minds, which had been enhanced by The Horned Kings power made them formidable creatures.
Malruthiia focused her talents more on warfare and the more brutal aspects of magic, wishing to become an unbeatable battle mage, so that never again would anyone be able to control her.
Tivreot reveled in his new position and power, he being the more playful of the two became enamored with stories and song, and soon learned how to perform his own.
Over the years the two performed many services for The Horned King, faithfully, quickly and with skill. Therefore The Horned King was as good as his word, he granted each more power, and position within his court. It was at some point within this time that the rivalry between the two became much more serious than sibling rivalry, Malruthiia always hated how easily Tivreot was able to pick up things that she felt she had to work harder for, she saw him as lazy and foolish and didn’t think that he deserved the same rewards as her and seeing him receive equal accolades made her very bitter. Tivreot didn’t help things either, playing increasingly cruel practical jokes on Malruthiia embarrassing her in front of their liege and the entire court. After many hundreds of years of pranking and bickering a true animosity had formed between the two. It was around the time that Mal and Tiv were granted their current court positions that Tiv disappeared from court, and there were more than a few rumors that spoke of foul play on the part of Malruthiia. Though none ever had any proof of it. It turns out that many of those were true, though it is also true that Malruthiia did not break any rules, and still faithfully acts as a vassal for The Horned King.
