Origins of Giants and Dragons

  • As told by Lorekeeper Laisren
  • Long before the origin wars, before Corellon bled upon Yonder, before moradin created the dwarves, before the moon shone in the skies overhead, the land was new and far less refined. The all mother of giant kind, Era, sculpted the land from the seas and set her children free to rule it. She gave birth to 5 children, whom each took different portions of the land for themselves and began to shape it to their own liking, each finding in time their own mates and each had their own children and after a time nations of giant kind began to grow across the land. The children are each the progenitors of the different kinds of giants. Heljun was the first and most powerful of the children, he was the result of the union of Era and The Storm Lord, he is said to be the father of the Storm Giants. Imris the second child was also the result of Era and the Storm lord, though Imris her first daughter was not as large and physically powerful as Heljun she was far more adept at harnessing the wild flows of magical energies across the land, she became the mother of the cloud giants. Hunir the third child another son was the result of a pairing between Era and the leviathan. It was said that Hunir did not like his siblings and therefore set about making his realm inhospitable to all but those who could withstand the bitterest of cold weather. He is said to be the father of Frost Giants. Vohana the fourth child is the result of era and one of the prime fire elementals of the land, She was as big as Hunir but also disliked her siblings and much preferred the dark, so she crafted her realm deep underground where she could find readily available magma flows to shape to her liking. The final child of Era was Isjun, this was the result of Era and one of the prime earth elementals, Isjun was said to be the quietest of all the children, and the slowest to anger, but none of the others wished to truly anger Isjun for he was as large as Heljun and though he never showed it had immense power. Isjun is said to be the father of the stone giants.   Some time after the giants had created their kingdoms and spread across the land, an asteroid fell from the heavens, impacting the land and destroying much of what existed, a large chunk of the asteroid remained on the land but a large chunk ripped free and stayed in the night sky, the chunk that stayed in the sky overhead now that it had lost its outer crust showed what looked to be a glimmering gemstone, that is Leira. Or the moon.   But the other half of the asteroid that remained on the land began to move and shake, the giants approached and soon realized that it had not been an asteroid at all but an egg. And from within the egg, the mother of dragon kind.   Krona the mother of dragon kind emerged from her egg and let her children loose across the lands, the dragons of all kinds spreading far and wide across the land, thriving in the magical energies rapidly growing, in size and power.   The two most powerful of her children being Bahamut, and Tiamat Soon the giants realized the threat that the dragons posed them but it was far too late to get rid of them easily.   But as it is the giants and dragons fought, and fought. Their battles shaping the land and the weave of magic. These battles went on for thousands of years. Till there were very few of both sides left, it was around this time as well that new gods had taken an interest in the land and began to fight over portions long since abandoned by the giants and dragons. Some of the dragons, like Bahamut and Tiamat held their own in the fight against these new beings but the majority of the dragons and giants retreated to the far corners of the world, to exist as a shadow of what they once were.
