Inner Galleries

Outside the cave cities of the Snow Elves lies a completely mysterious and sometimes dangerous world full of monsters, predators, and treacherous galleries and caves where many inexperienced people might get lost or even find death. That's why travelling with an experienced guide or a big group across these galleries is always adviceable, as well as travelling fast through them in order to not attract the attention of monsters, bandits or other undesireable peoples. If you want to survive you'll need some times and information... and for that, I've the PERFECT PERSON for you!!. Ok, Aelwen all yours, give these visitors a guide on how to survive in the inner galleries!   Ok, guys! Listen up!. I'm not going to repeat it twice!, the place you're going to go through is very dangerous, and, as the Protector of the Inner Galleries, it is my duty to keep all of you safe!. Right, first things first, if you are so unfortunate as to have to go through this region, you should carry a weapon or some sort of magic, especially the latter, you will need it for many things.   Now, the Inner Galleries themselves, they consist of a network of tunnels and dungeons that are located in or near the small galleries which connect to the main galleries that connect the cities and towns of the Snow Elves. Some of these places were inhabited in the past by elves or dwarves but somehow they were driven out. Now, some of these galleries, especially the closest to the main tunnels are continuously patrolled by adventurers like myself, so you can say these are the "safest" regions of the Inner galleries. What lies beyond are the regions you should worry about.   As I said , these regions are populated mostly by orcs and goblins , who have made them their home after expelling the elves and dwarves who live there, when and why they did this? I've no idea, they've been living there for millenia, but by the gods, some of them are tough. In the case of the goblins, well... those bastards are fast and they can hear pretty well BUT they are not very smart and not very strong, but mind you that if you are attacked by many of them at the same time, if you are not an skilled swordsman or wizard, well...consider yourself dead. What I usually do is taking advantage of their weakness, and that is their poor vision outside dark places (they are like owls during the day) , the darker the place is the better they see so I always carry a Luminunculus with me to have always tons of light around me.   For the orcs, well, things are different you see?. Many of them are stronger or as strong as a human, it depends on their age. Young orcs can outrun you while adult and old orcs can't. Their methods of "hunting" or taking prisioners are similar to how dragon birds attack their pray, the younglings try to catch the prey or surround it while the old ones deliver the last, deadly blow. Their sense of smell is really poor and, like the goblins, they are so use to live in the dark that they can't see very well in iluminate species. If you can't throw them off, here's what you can do. Always carry a few jars of mint or lavender with you. Orcs hate these smells, and they seem to be so strong for them, especially lavender, that it causes allergic reactions. This way, you'll either throw them off or, at best, they won't even come nearby you. Huh Do I smell like that? Of course! I like to be clean and well-groomed wherever I go. I always wash my hair with mint-scented soap and I always scent my clothes with lavender. I only discovered later on my own that orcs don't like these smells... Oh by the way, young orcs are not as strong as the old so you can easily defeat them if you are skilled enough!.   Large monsters like snow dragons or mythological monsters, like werewolves, are a different story. You have to be very, very skilled in magic and the art of combat, and agile if you have to flee. I've had to fight some of them, and I have to say it's one of the few times I've felt truly afraid while fighting, but here I am, and it wasn't because I ran away.   If you don't possess those qualities, it's best not to fight alone; it's better to form a group to have any chance! In the case of snow dragons, unless you stun them, fleeing is practically impossible unless you escape through a narrow tunnel they can't fit through!   In any case, regardless of the danger you face, always carry one of these whistles with you. Most monsters hate this sound, and you will also alert the detachments of soldiers or groups of adventurers patrolling parts of these areas. If they hear it, they will rush to your rescue!   Now, things you should never EVER do in those places if you want to survive, and believe me I've seen fools dying because they didn't follow these basic rules!.
  1. NEVER TRAVEL ALONE (unless you're a veteran adventurer like me) like ...for fuck's sake do you wanna die or somethin'? ,my advice is always travel alongside merchant caravans or groups of people protected by adventurers from local guilds.
  2. NEVER TALK LOUD!, it's just not about being polite, Your stupid screams may attract the attention of unwanted monsters. So, while traveling through the Inner Galleries, always keep your voice low.
  3. All that glitters is not gold; and this goes for the mimics, I saw some greedy noob adventurers being eaten by those things.
  4. Aside of lavander and mint, NEVER use perfume, it will attract monsters!
  5. NEVER leave a settlement before buying provisions for the journey, who knows how many days are you going to spend in the Inner Galleries!.
And last, but not least!, If you ever travel with an adventurer or expert in the Inner Galleries, please be respectful and grateful to them. We're risking our lives to protect you and the rest of the community. I'm not asking you to give us money, because after all, it's our job; we get paid for it, but a "thank you" or "Take this food for the ride back" is a thoughtful gesture.   I always like to keep in touch with my nice "clients," those who are grateful, know how to behave, and are aware of the dangers. With them, I travel more calmly, but I never let my guard down! So if you ever see me in the galleries and I come up to say hello, consider yourself lucky. I've taken a liking to you, and even more so if I remember your name. Sometimes I'm a little forgetful, but I deal with a lot of people!   So, these are the tips for survival that a veteran adventurer and Protector of the Inner Galleries like me can give you, I hope they're helpful and also I hope to see you again...alive next time!.
