Several hundred years ago, The Ethereal Plane began to shift unnaturally. The planes of Earth, Water, Fire and Air, as well the the echo planes started to move around, and came into contact with the Prime Material Plane. Six large permanent portals opened across the world, four connected to the Elemental Planes and one each from The Feywild and Shadowfell. This brought chaos to the world, but over time the inhabitants adapted. The planes are still shifting and changing all the time. Small portals open and close randomly across the world, letting inn all sort of creatures from other worlds. Some are harmless, but other are more nefarious in nature. Luckily for the world, there are people who are able to find and seal these portals. They are also able to feel where the veil is weakest, and can prevent the portals from opening in the first place. They are called Horizon Walkers, rangers who travel the multiverse in order to keep the balance.
