Triton
Guardians of the depths, Tritons have been around since the beginning of the world. Created in secret by Idonus, they were the elite guards of the darkest depths of the ocean. They were dutiful and honourable, protecting the surface while knowing nothing of it. Gradually the multitudes of horrors began to slip through the Triton's nets and make their way surfaceward. This is when the first Triton's discovered what lay above the oceans. They were entranced and pleaded with their god to allow them onto the land. He gave them the ability to breathe air but cursed them, so they would never be able to find home. This small conclave of Tritons are the ancestors of any Tritons you are likely to meet in Yarradonei.
Still dutiful and honourable, the 'surface Tritons' still protect the landfolk from the dangers of the oceans, though they no longer battle the titans of the depths as they used to.

Basic Information
Anatomy
Broadly humanoid but with subtle adjustments to be adapted to aquatic life. Their skin and hair comes in shades of blue, green and grey to blend in better with their environment. They have both lungs (as a human) and mucus sacks which can distill oxygen from water.
Growth Rate & Stages
Triton are born into jellied sacks, like a frogs egg. They spend the first year of their life in this state before they are strong enough to break free on their own, where they are born swimming and join the closest predatory sea creature they can find. By age 5 they become amphibious and come onto land where they have to try and unlearn what they have learnt for the first 5 years of their life. Few Tritons fully complete this and make vicious warriors because of this, but also tend to lack social skills.

Geographic Origin and Distribution
Requiring oceans for reproduction, they are mostly costal, and tend to avoid large settlements of other sentient creatures. The majority are found on the Andhakara coast, though a few can be found on the Perversas coast.
Average Intelligence
Tritons are often intelligent, being adept at learning about their surroundings. The aplication of their knowledge is where they struggle and so technological advancements are slow for them.
Civilization and Culture
Major Organizations
The largest settlement of Tritons is the Kingdom of Jirund on the south eastern peninsular of the Andhakara Yarradonei coast. It is ruled by Titus, self proclaimed king of the seas.
Average Technological Level
The Triton's latest technological advancement was the galleon, though through trade they have access to higher levels of technology, they don't understand it themselves.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Due to the vast differences between how Tritons and other humanoid species procreate, cross breeding is impossible, though romantic relationships based on pleasure have occasionlly been know to happen, it is exceedingly rare.
