The Five Families
The Five Families are the rulers of Po. They are constantly in vicious competition with one another vying for power over the others, which conversely keeps them all balanced. As soon as one gets an upper hand, the others bunch together until they are all on even-footing once more. The five families are: The Macbeths, The Foxwells, The Gulsvigs, The Wescotts, and The Bancrofts.
Structure
Each of the five families has a Head of the family. Below the Head are the Elders, who act as a cabinet for the Head. Below the Elders are the Bloods (members of the bloodline of each family), and below them are the Lawfullies, those married into the family. Then, though not officially a part of the hierarchy, are the allies and those of benefit to each family. Nobody beyond the common folk crosses family lines and lives to talk about it.
Public Agenda
Each of the five families desire to rule Po themselves and hunt for excess power over the other four families. They also seek to govern their particular sectors of Po as effectively as possible as one of the many pawns for their power is their population which will increase by having a desirable borough.
Foreign Relations
Things are tense between Po and the other major cities of the North. This is due to the 'governments' internal focus making them quite isolationist. The only concession they make is that the families allow members of The Knights of Leiyah into their courts (however, they usually have the most morally flexible member and they usually live out of the family's pocket).
