Nikus No More
It all began with Inr. Born to Nikus and a Goliath Barbarian woman. Inr grew into a giant even compared to his own people. A towering 12’ man. He earned his prestige fighting against the elves in the First War of Yarradon. He was labelled a hero of the people as helping them win the war (except Elves who curse him as a devil). He was felled in the rise of the Elementals by swarming earth elementals and became a mountain range. Nikus loved his son and mourned his loss. It was his passing that caused Nikus to give his life to create Giants.
He wanted to create a race as strong and beautiful as his son. He summoned up the totality of his divine power and his outpouring onto the material plane drained him of everything he had and he died.
Giants poured into the world, and the amount of organised prayer and ritual that had powered Nikus’ magic effected them towards lawfulness. The universe reflexly tried to balance out the influx of law by creating chaos but the material plane was saturated with the magical eruption of the Giants arrival. To circumvent this, the chaos manifested itself in the splintering of the outer planes and the creation of plane dwelling creatures of chaos; and thus the Dragons were born*.

The Giants collided with and took on the characteristics of some of the elemental planes during their creation, causing Fire, Stone, Storm, Hill and Cloud Giants. With their creation complete, new born to the universe, the Giants looked to the heavens for guidance on how to live orderly, but their God was dead and their path unclear. The Giants fell into disarray, fighting over who should be in charge and decide the future of Giant kind. The only thing they could decide on was that there must be a hierarchy.
* Dragons, largely unnoticed by the gods, were noticed by researchers on Yarradon who were studying the Planes of Existence. They began opening portals to these planes to study them better and thus dragons leaked into the material plane. Each type of Dragon is influenced by the plane it was born into, good/evil, law/chaos, it affects its colour and element of attack, but all dragons are chaotic by nature, even if they originate from a plane of law.
