Tinza Island (Ulya Tinza, Common Insular Tin: [uʎɑ tinzɑ])

Tinza is a large island in the Viscus Sea between Tytheria and Ergona. It gets its name from the Tin people who've inhabited the island for several thousands of years. The current polity controlling the island is the Federation of Tinza, which has existed since the mid-1800s.

Geography

The island is very mountainous, especially in the east.

Climate

The climate of Tinza is tropical, having hot summers and mild winters.

Fauna & Flora

Tinza shares similar types of flora and fauna to Tytheria. Just like Tytheria, sasks, specifically the Tin Sasks inhabit the island. The island is also heavily forested in the east due to its sparse population in the region.

History

Tin Empire (437-115 EY)

Origin of the Tins

The Tins are an off shooting ethnic group of the Pan-Tytherians, having slowly migrated from the Tytherian Peninsula and the southern coast of Admanta to the island of Tinxa. By the year 1000 EY, Tin culture had overtaken most of Tinxa, except for the eastern portion of the island.

Origin of the Tin Empire

The Tin Empire structurally existed since the 600s EY and was formally established in 437 EY with the awarding of General and King Viscovius of Valeti the title of "Vantoro" by the Tin clerics for his conquest of most of the native inhabitants of eastern Tinxa, which meant "Great Father". Viscovius made his home of Valeti the capital of his new Empire, incorporating the surrounding settlements and renamed it to Abetinzarou, meaning "Great Tin City".

Tinism

Tinism was the primary religion of the Tins. It was a polytheistic religion based around the sun and moon, sharing some similarities with some Tytherian religions. The Viscovians (descendants of Viscoivus Valeti) were considered holy as was Viscovius after being selected as Vantoro. Tins believed that Viscovians could not die or be harmed in the same way as other people could. They believed that Viscovians could not be killed by the people, die of sickness, or any other common way except for old age, suicide, or being killed by a relative. This kept assassination attempts to a minimum.

Height of the Tin Empire

The Tin Empire was stable from its proclamation in 437 EY until the death of Emperor Viscovius III in 299 EY. After his death, unrest grew slowly within the Empire, with several regions rebelling against the Tin Emperor occasionally. Viscovius III is considered the greatest of the Tin Emperors for his extermination of the last natives of eastern Tinxa and his various naval endeavors in the Viscus Sea, which is named after him. His wife was Audore Tixone, a member of the ancient Tixone Dynasty from Tebinzonia. After his death, his second-cousin Malo Nireura would inherit the title of Emperor, beginning the decline of the Tin Empire.

The Great Karadian Famine and the End of the Emperors

During the reign of Emperor Karad Arad, the first Emperor to have a father who wasn't a descendant of Viscovius, experienced large scale famine across the Empire in 116 and 115 EY. Karad was in his early 30s at the time and inexperienced with dealing with famine. His failure to reduce the impact of famine resulted in the storming of the Tin Palace in Abetinzirou by peasant protesters. After they managed to defeat the imperial guards, they entered Karad's chamber where he had been held up. Not believing they could kill him, the protestors did not attack Karad so they could have an audience with him, but after an arrow shot from a protestor within the crowd hit Karad in the chest, the group rushed him, ending his life. After the Emperor's death, the protestors searched for the rest of his family and killed them, including his wife Iliha and his heir.

Destruction of the Empire and the Tin Exodus

Because the Emperor and his entire family were killed by peasants, people considered far lowers than him, Tinism fell out quickly with the common people, which led to the hunting and killing of Tin nobles and religious leaders. The collapse of power worsened the famine and lead to a mass exodus from primarily western Tinxa to eastern Tytherian, Syvona, and Venlada. Prominent families like the Tixones also fled Tinxa, carrying Tinism along with them.

2000 Years of Darkness

The destruction of Tin Empire and its primary religion left Tinxa in permanent disarray. Because Tinism came to define most of Tin society and political structure, its destruction left the Empire shattered beyond repair. For the next 2 millennia, the Tins of Tinxa (Latins) would fight amongst each other to reunite the Empire, but culture differences and no religion to unite them made all attempts futile. The period ended in the 1800s when Tinxa was finally unified under a modern federal structure.
