The Godspoken
Relationships between Vampires and humans are often odd, to say the least. They are far more unnerving when it is an alliance outside of their Kjurvog. Often described as obsessive and frightening, the Vampires discover individuals, governments, or bonds and give their unwavering support. Even the term Godspoken comes from an early speech, where a Vampire claimed he would fight against whatever god would condemn what is his. Despite the notions that the Trel are her most ardent of supporters, an alliance forged with the resolve of iron, it simply isn't true. Vampires, though united, are motivated by greed-filled desires, acting independently towards what they see as the greater good. Yet, there remains something beyond the pale limitations of their hedonistic tendencies, and the apathetic worldview that increasingly grows on Vampires who have lived too long. An attraction, or perhaps a longing, to what they once were or what they held as bonds and motivations. No two Godspoken are alike; the fierce loyalty and devotion shown by the Vampires are unfamiliar within their heartless forms.
This relationship, seeing the paths that others walk, feels like watching a play for the second time. The characters still feel so real, and their struggles are vibrant across the scenes, but there's a disconnect. The world in which the characters fight and die is so far removed from our reality, as the Vampires have transcended reality, the struggles of man seem nearly irrelevant after enough time. The Vampires have seen these fires, the archetypes, the swords, and the lies. The Vampires know the ending. Yet, it is these burning convictions that touch the Vampires, somewhere in their psyche. It is not the Trel, the Empire of a thousand lights, that the Vampires cling to for warmth. It is the lesser kingdoms, the fools who hold nothing more than a simple torch against the encroaching darkness, that often find favor among the Vampires.
Tao, King of the Buren, is a famous example of a Godspoken. While the reasons remain unknown, his rule drew the favor of the Vampire known as Baatar. Despite having said less than a hundred words over the years they've known one another, Tao has received many gifts, including the first discovered Grave Bears. It is often joked that children have been guarded from the shadows by Vampires, and young couples have grown old together, cared for by the dark northern patrons, almost like pets.
