Mapping Hegemony Space

Interstellar Travel

Homeworld is the center of it all. The phenomena known as Highspace, with it's attendant Jump Points, is centered upon Homeworld which "technically" functions as the "root node" in four different Clusters, each represented by one of the cardinal directions on the Katrevian map: North, Easth, South, and West (the Hegemony originally had some fancier names based upon the Archdukes, but during a season of non-human sentimality of righting wrongs to non-human folks, the maps were based upon Katrev's understanding of Points and Lines, and it stuck).   Fittingly, the Exodus from Homeworld headed for the four systems which were beyond Homeworld along the Four Lines. These first four colonies (in order of colonization) Canus, New Home, Fletcher, and Bridgepoint would become the four seats of government in the Hegemony and are known formally as The Founding Four, though they also known as Corefour. Travel in the direction of Corefour is said to be heading Coreward (or jokinginly, Fourward) and away from them is Wayward.

Interstellar Features

Roughly 5 AUs (500 million miles) above and below a system's barycenter there are typically two Jump Points, forming the Solar North Point and the Solar South Point. Though most systems that have Jump Points follow this principle, not all do - see Katrev Points and Lines.   AetherShips can traverse 5 AU in 3 days (non-Newtonian engines capable of reasonably quick acceleration to .01c). From there, travel from point to point is 5 days.
