Consort

A rank used in the Imperial Harem, to denote a woman who has been visited by the Emperor and has gained his favor. Often has an attribute in the title, e.g. Noble Consort, Silent Consort, Virtuous Consort, Humble Consort. Performs the same bow as a Concubine.

Requirements

Must have been a Concubine, and have received at least one visit from the Emperor.

Appointment

The Emperor bestows this rank upon a woman. He will usually have an edict read to the Harem, to celebrate her rise among the ranks.

Duties

Provide the Emperor with children, gain prestige and favor for her family, To provide the Emperor respite from his worries.

Responsibilities

Further their education, Embroider/Make gifts for the Emperor, be available to the Emperor at all times, hone her intelligence and wit, as well as take care of her beauty.

Benefits

A Consort can receive one to five concubines to serve her, as well as many servants, and a eunuch or two to help her with whatever she needs. She also receives lavish gifts and a raise in her allowance from the emperor.

Accoutrements & Equipment

It is a Consorts duty to look refined and beautiful at all times. She must choose her clothing well, for even using the wrong color may offend someone with more seniority or power.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

Death is the most common removal of a Consort. Poisonings, accidents, execution for pissing off the emperor, so on and so forth. Rarely is a Consort dismissed.
