Thalnike

(a.k.a. The Dancing Butterfly, The Blooming One, The Joyful Lady)

"We are as Thalnike made us! We will never be ashamed of it!"
- an unnamed priestess of the Dancing Butterfly, shouting at Gorgorian soldiers attempting to deface her alter
Thalnike is the Gorgorian goddess of art, music, childbirth, and flowers. She is depicted as an eteros Gorgoron, often shown mid-dance with bells in each hand and with butterflies in her hair. Thalnike is the newest deity in the Gorgorian pantheon, and is resoundingly denied godhood by the archaic Gorgorians and nearly all priests of Nesdaione. Once a minor, obscure demi-god whose sole domain was fertility, Thalnike's priests and priestesses were instrumental in helping many young Gorgorons escape the archaic city-states in the waning days of the Dissention Age. Her cult exploded in popularity afterward, and Thalnike ascended to full godhood and laid claim to domains long ignored in the Gorgorian pantheon.   Due to her controversial status, Thalnike has no temples in Gorgorian controlled city-states. Even in the more moderate, mixed population cities, the priests of Nesdaione have successfully blocked any attempts to create permanent shrines to the Dancing Butterfly through both legal and illegal means. There are, however, two temples to Thalnike in existence, one in Kydyras and one in the Minoan city of Pygos.
