Anapha
(a.k.a. The Ever-Living One, Lord of Decay, The Shepard of Souls)
Anapha is the Bennuan god of death, mummification, resurrection, and the afterlife. He is generally depicted as a male Bennu with his face obscured by mummification gauze, carrying a crooked staff in his left hand and a flail in his right hand. Unlike his Gorgorian counterpart, Anapha is not feared by the Bennuan people, but instead is given great reverence and respect for his role in safe-guarding the souls of those who have passed on through their journey in the afterlife. He is said to be the deity who gifted the Bennu with the ritual to create the Taste of Eternity, which allows them to halt their aging process. Temples to Anapha are numerous, for as with his consort's sacred buildings, they serve a dual purpose. Anapha's sanctuaries are both holy sites and mortuaries, where bodies are mummified before being entombed. His most sacred temple is located near the tiny village of Tarefu, high in the Teeth of the Stars."...And thus the Lord of Decay taught those first of us how to guard the soul from evil, how to ward off the sands of time..."- Excerpt from the oldest known copy of "The Word of Life," circa 138 EX
